I think you did more than just a few mods:) Without me doing the driving, I'm really not sure what the car will do. Just bored & hope I do well. It's just a DD for me. I need a reliable nice car for a year or two. Then again, we'll see. I do understand drag racing.

andre12031948 11-10-2013 08:30 PM

It's a 2012 with only 1k mileage

Just bumped into it. It's like new & the price was right. Done deal, just need the bank to open & I'll pay the rest off. I carry a few grand on me as gas money & sometimes :)

I think the DA was 1800 - 2000. It was Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, KY. The slip is posted in this thread somewhere, but the 60' was a crummy 2.1x. I got the launch down pretty good but the shift from 1-2 it'd fish tail costing me time. Going from auto mode to manual mode shaved 2/10ths by the way. With good tires and a 1.7 - 1.8 60' it's well in to the 12s.

I drive a 600RWHP manual trans 2009 Challenger at the track a lot and run 10.90s thus far with it so driver finesse is a lot of it. I'm one of only 3 manual trans Challengers in the 10s that we know of.

A 10.90 w a manual. Nice to meet a true drag racer. I also met Jason your # one bolt on guy in Florida. I was there when he did that 12.2 ......

He might not be into drag racing today. That seems to be my future as well :(

Speedy 11-11-2013 12:28 PM

LOL, well all the auto guys make fun of us stick drivers. We're the hard headed ones that tear up more stuff on those cars than you can shake a stick at LOL

It's all fine with me. I drive that Challenger to work and all over the place and spend a lot more time on the street with it where rowing gears is a lot more fun than an auto. If it had a GOOD auto trans in it like the Z, I'd have an auto though as the autos run right at .5 faster in ET at the same power levels as us stick guys. They are easier on drive train parts as well. A lot of the original stick drivers have actually done auto conversions.

Here's one of my runs:

The quickest drag cars are automatics or some version

andre12031948 11-11-2013 07:20 PM

I'm going to try go to Atco this weekend if weather is good

No mods, just curious & it's almost over. Also there is bracket racing, IMPORT VS DOMESTIC :) That could be fun. The domestic guys are much better drivers, as a group. Sorry.

I had a very serious brain injury this year where I almost d..... So I hope I can handle driving that far and competing.

Anybody going?????

Please, just don't hit me in the head.....

andre12031948 11-12-2013 09:05 PM

Are my goals/expectations too high????

I just got a 2012 370z automatic. Only 1,200 miles on it. I would like to take it to Atco this Sunday for the Import vs Domestic drag racing.

There is no time this week to go to my tuner for test pipes & an Osiris tune, plus no time to order some good drag tires. So I'll bring it to my friendly Nissan dealer near my house. I will ask them to do something for me(secret)shhh, also raise my RPM red line plus change the oil with 5/30 Mobil one.

With street tires, can I break into the 12.9's & win bracket one over ALL the domestic & ALL the imports?????

You think my goals/expectations are a bit too high????

Chuck33079 11-12-2013 09:08 PM

Do not raise the redline unless you want to destroy the motor. The oil pump comes apart at higher than stock rpm.

andre12031948 11-12-2013 09:20 PM

Thanks but I DON'T think so

My 08 Z had it's redline/shut off at 7,700rpm & I shifted at 7500/7600 rpm. Every drag racer that does good times & has a 370 or the H.R 350 does/did the same thing. I think your # one bolt on record holder 12.2 was shifting at 7800 rpm. I can be wrong on that one. I was there in person & I think that's what he said.

Now what about my goals/expectations :)

Chuck33079 11-12-2013 09:24 PM

There have been multiple people who have lost their motors at the track with raised redlines. This isn't a 350. The internals of the oil pump are sintered metal and it comes apart at higher than stock rpm. It would be a shame to break it the same week you bought it, but its your car.

andre12031948 11-12-2013 09:33 PM

I appreciate your advice but

You know that it's very hard for me to compromise/play safe. Did you see my video on youtube andre12031948 "in a blink of an eye" That's the only way I drive, actually worst, it's an old video:)

Car has a warranty..... till 60k on engine

Chuck33079 11-12-2013 09:34 PM

It's your car. It's a risk, but it doesn't inconvenience anybody but you if it blows up.

Even with ATCO's mine shaft air, 12.9s will be tough on street tires.

If you read that post again you'll see it's a bit of a joke. Also win bracket ONE against ALL imports & all domestics.:) Hey, I'll have fun, and do my best.

If the weather......

andre12031948 11-12-2013 10:20 PM

if after test pipes & tune & tires I won't do solid 12's

The car gets burned......

Verda7junior 11-13-2013 08:41 PM

I wonder how far into the 12s these cars could be NA but with just intake, test pipes, exhaust, tune, and slicks?

bacalhau1669 11-13-2013 09:57 PM

with trap speeds close to 110mph, you'd think mid low 12's shouldnt be a problem. there just arent enough people actually trying to drag their 370's competitively.

I think I'll be doing mid 12's in early spring. I'll do it with stock intakes & stock exhaust minus the cats. Good chance I'll take my new/used 2012 auto to Atco this Friday or Sunday. No rain Sunday then that's my day. Bracket day import vs domestics. I've got 2,000 miles now. All I need is an oil change :) I don't know how the base wheels/tires will react to drag racing.

Soon, very soon I'll know....

Goal? If it doesn't rain Sunday, I'll do 12.9's to 13.2 & of course win the bracket class over the domestics & other imports. :tiphat:

If you plan on mid 12s with stock intakes and exhaust I want to run whatever track you are on. That's highly unlikely unless that track is super sticky and downhill lol

12.89 @110.74 is my best and that was in march at 60 degrees outside. Only way I see myself lowering my time is with drag radials, camber adjustment, and/or transmission upgrades.

bacalhau1669 11-14-2013 10:28 AM

Andre has mentioned using slicks on his 350z a few times, so im hoping he'll do the same with his new 370z

andre12031948 11-14-2013 10:54 AM

Yes

I had to use slicks(it's a manual trans) & special ply front tires. Running with slicks(ply tires) & front radial tire gets you a very hairy(sp)??? & dangerous ride; not to mention the slowing of the car that goes from side to side.

I did have STOCK intakes & Stock exhaust except for test pipes, tune and of course gears. I've held the 350z bolt on record at 12.509@ 110mph for 2/3 years. Early this spring I bought a pumpkin with 4:08 gears(mine was with 3:90) from this 370z sight. After that I did almost all my runs in the 12.4's with the best(on 350z 25top 07/08 bolt on site) of 12.419.......

So with a stronger engine than the 08 hr, I'm confident that I'll do ok with only 3 mods & a tune + tires. No slick cause this is an auto trans and I don't need slicks and don't want to change 4 tires/wheels twice + drive 3 hours each way :icon17:

Now I know the 370z has a GREAT auto trans. but to be honest not modest, I was an excellent+++ 6 spd driver. 3rd & 4th gear I almost shifted without the clutch. So I guess my driving was my best mod ;) What can I say ???

andre12031948 11-14-2013 11:12 AM

IMPORTANT - mechanical pumkin info needed NOW if available

I'm at a Nissan dealership with my pumpkin(rear end) out & the mechanic shows me that the anti lock gear band don't match up.

I have a manual trans with LSD, and want to replace my automatic no lsd unit.

CAN I ?????? ABS???? Do I need to changesomething . Anybody that knows, please post.

Thanks...

Yor run will be quick, but the draw back will be the 4th to 5th gear change.
the car just dies in 5th and the shift take .62 of a second vs .32 for the 1 st to 2nd shift.

ts-c63 11-14-2013 07:37 PM

not for nothing but i dont see why people have trouble to get into the 12s with this car. my best time was 12.7 with just hfcs and exhaust. And every run after that was no slower then 12.9...

100% agree

If the rain & humidity thing doesn't get that bad this weekend, then I'll go to the track and post my time slips.

Next Spring with 2 mods, tires & a tune, I'll do 12.5's/12.6's and that's without my biggest mod, ME DRIVING/SHIFTING a manual trans. :)

andre12031948 11-14-2013 08:00 PM

Will not use 4:08 gears

So I will NOT have to shift into 5th. Please understand, I wasn't born yesterday :)

no reason to shift into 5th with 7at, 4th tops out at 120ish and no bolt on z will trap that haha.

if you have the 4.08 gears you will be in 5th.

Not bad for a non drag ready car.

Full weight full tank of gas.

11.437 @ 128.90 on MT et 2 305/35/19 R/T - 1.981

Wheels 19" by 11.5 sp3 in the rear also lowered on Kw variant coilovers.

No adjustments made from driving in the street to driving down the strip.

Very nice. I hope you don't mind me saying this. Friday my first run with my new/used base 2012 with stock tires did a 2.0 60' time. You have to fix your traction. With the power your car makes, you should do 1.6 ' times & you'll be on your way to the tens.
