I'm hoping to get back out there this Sunday if it isn't raining.

Alstann 03-31-2012 08:37 PM

Went to the track a couple weeks ago, but got hit with a sickness and it made me too tired to post my new times!

Second night on the track that this Z has seen, and I am super happy with the time I got. Spent all night running stupid 13.9-14.2 second times, then I girded my loins and pulled off...

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...331_213048.jpg

a 13.546!!! :happydance: I am super happy with the time.

With the guidance of my buddy driving a 300ZX, I learned some good technique on letting the wheels slip on the clutch and hook themselves on 3/4 throttle. I didn't get many more runs after that, since my friend and his 14 second RSX decided to explode it's second gear, and die on us. Overall though, it was a great night with a lot of buddies. This might be the last run I do in the completely bone stock class, since I am itching on finally installing my HFC's I bought so long ago. We shall see, though.

Nice run, James. I see you're improving with practice.

Did you change the tire pressure at all? What rpm were you launching at?

Thanks Ray.

I actually did play with the pressures - it turns out I've been driving around at 40 psi cold. I lowered my pressures to 32-35 (gauge was super erratic for whatever reason), and that was when I got my 13.5. The launch was around 4.5 to 5k, it didn't hop nearly as much as it did before, and after a bit of wheelspin, it took off like a rocket. Felt much more connected to the ground by a long shot.

My buddy was recommending pressures as low as 25 - I was gonna give it a shot, but that was when I had to help my stricken friend and his broken car.

VQStryker 04-02-2012 10:56 PM

^^^ get some TOYO R888 or NITTO NT01 or 555R's and a LSD if you don't have one already

Give or take a tenth here or there, I am very impressed with the Power the New Z has.

I come from the land of old school and high Horsepower V-8 's. Back then it was all we had..Square tires too( biased ply).

Now you have V-6 engines running the same times or better...

Very Nice...

I have the best of both worlds...I need to get out to the dragstrip in 2012 to see what I run.

So, well done guys...

b1adesofcha0s 04-03-2012 06:25 AM

I'm planning on heading out for the first time this season on Friday night. Hoping to finally beat my stock time :icon17:

Speedy 04-03-2012 08:53 AM

You definitely need to get the tire pressure down lower on the stock tires to get a decent launch. Even then anything over 1.9 60' isn't really getting it done.

I've got my best launches with 23 to 25 psi.

Friday should be my first track day this year and opening day for Bremerton raceway. This will be my first day on 10psi, hopefully all goes well. I am going in for the tune tomorrow :happydance:

I didn't get the tune done, the clutch was slipping so I am going to try breaking it in more and hope that works

I was planning on going this past Friday, but Capitol Raceway is under new management and closed indefinitely

no it's Azure Blue. PHENOMenalVinyl did a full vinyl wrap on it. The FX's unfortunately get rock chips all over the place especially the side rear doors.

Doing some major weight redux and trying to break 12's with it.

I'm definitely gonna give 25 psi a shot next time I go out. I'm actually gonna probably be stock a little while longer, end of semester stuff and work are keeping me real busy and away from my car! It'll at least give me a chance to improve my stock times.

One_Quick_Z 04-09-2012 11:23 AM

Went to the track last saturday only was able to run 5 times so a 13.0 was my best on the new tires, but that was also straight into a 15mph head wind lol. On the final run of the day I got the feel of the tires and how I was able to launch it whith the best results and that got me the 13.0 should have been in the 12's again but oh well just need to hit the track again this spring or fall.

I'd love to see an fx50 in the 12's. I had an fx45 and I loved that car. Always wanted to put a 100 shot on it and see what it would do but I never got around to it.

One_Quick_Z 04-10-2012 10:27 AM

Tires ADO8's and 60' times where 2.0ish. I know if I was able to get more runs I would have been in the 12's it was only my third time actually driving the car this year and I only got five runs that day. Didnt heat the tires enough and that caused me to not be able to launch the car any higher than 2.5k except on the last run which was the 13.0 time. maybe at the end of this month I might try and make it back to Byron.

well, had my first time out this weekend with the new setup and tune on the car. There was way too much wheel spin, the ET can be much lower but I'll fix this :D

Best I did was 12.35 @ 121 and 60ft didn't show but I was a consistent 2.0-2.2

This is EXACTLY how I did my first time out. (12.28 @121). Then, 11.98, then 11.72, then....

Keep at it. Get tires. Props.

121 trap speed is excellent. What tires are you using? If you're trying to do well on street tires, I'll give some advice, give up now. Get some drag radials or slicks and you'll be much more satisfied.

I started with street tires on my supercharged Challenger. Best I could ever do was 12.82 at 119-120. Went to a M&H drag radial and instantly went 12.0 at 121 and eventually learned to shift better and got down to 11.53 at 124.

Slapped slicks and skinnies on the Challenger Saturday for the first time. 11.19 at 126. Makes it the 2nd fastest 6 speed Challenger in the world at this point. First is a 10.95...notice I said 6 speed. The auto guys are well in to the 9s and some 8s.

60 foot was 1.65 and it's a 4300 pound car. That Z will take off like a rocket with traction.

P.S. if you guys would rather me not post info about this Challenger on here just lemme know, but figured some of the same principles I learned with it will help you with the Z.

VQStryker 04-16-2012 03:45 PM

thanks guys! Nice to know Im in line to run times like COOP

I dropped the car off at a transmission shop here in silverdale, WA about 1hr ago to get the OS Giken installed. There is a "Discount tire direct" store about 15 minutes from me so when I get the car back ill be stoppin in for some toyo R888. Skinnies and slicks would be cool but I am going to need something to throw them in when I go to the track, wife has an eclipes :/ and they are not going into the Z. Coilovers will do me wonders too, I am still on the stock suspension and the body roll is rediculous. I did have coilovers at one point and with nothing else done to the car yet, I increased my trap speed by 3mph :)

I am going to try and get another tune also, maybe 12psi (seems to be ok for stock block others are doing it??....) and setting the boost controller's valve controller (HKS EVC) to open up sooner. The valve controller is setup for 4,800 rpm as of right now. The only issue I have with increasing boost is that I am only at 9.5psi but I am also making good power, the compression in the cylinder due to power output at that psi level sort of makes me unsure about doing it.

SharpByCoop 04-16-2012 08:55 PM

Speedy: Great driving! That heavy car exploded off the line, and you were bangin' those shifts. Props.

I know this is a 1/4 mile thread but just thought i'd share as i haven't gotten to take her out to the 1/4 mile yet.......did a few passes last night at the 1/8th mile.....hopin its a sign to look good when i finally get out to a 1/4 track :-)

The 350 guys 1/4 thread is impressive at this point. C'mon guy!!!! Get your boosted cars with some real rubber to the strip !!!

What's crazy is the 350s nitrous list. A ton of 11 second n20 cars. Vqs seem to like it.

When are you getting your SC installed?

Z eliminator 05-02-2012 07:21 AM

The SC goes in right after i do the 1/4 mile with the GTM tranney and i have a new 3400 to 3500 stall Pro torque converter for the car.
Hopefully it will beat J nauts time for all motor N/A.
I will be looking at 12.1's to 12.20's
Sam called me lsat night. the VB parts are done and they are in the final stages of assebly and will be tested on his car. My tranny is finished and so his my heat treated flex plate. Still trying to get ARP bolts for the converter install.
it cost about 600.00 to install the converter withj fluid. so im going to wait for the tranney.

Cool, can't wait to see the results

I'm still trying to beat my stock time. I think I can get it done now with full bolt ons and a bit wider tires than before. The local dragstrip has been shut down most of the season because it was taken over by new management. It was pretty crappy before and supposedly the new owners want to actually make it nice. I hope so because then I can finally run some good times.

Edit: Looks like they are opening up this Friday night :happydance:

Z eliminator 05-02-2012 07:28 AM

I missed the good weather lsat weekend. it was cold and sunny. 42 to 48 with a fully glued track and a 12 mile /hour tail wind.
does not get any better than that.
