Default Can you turn Slotted Rotors?

Doing my first track day on the 15th at streets of willow. I have a bit of shudder up front while on the brakes. Generally speaking, rotors are pretty much new, about 5k on them, r1 concept premium slotted rotors.

Can you resurface slotted rotors? I feel like it shouldn't be a problem but then again I'm no expert so I thought I'd ask anyway just incase I'm wrong and now i'd have an excuse for a new set of rotors.

ON a side note, Does anyone have hookups on good track pads? Or even some used ones that will last a track day or two?

I used to have light vibrations when braking on turns but it went away after about 500-700miles.

I wouldn't. Not sure a shop would want to ruin their bits with slotted rotors either.

Sand them. "Warping" is overstated. Most rotors are cast iron. Pretty hard to actually warp.
You most likely just have some buildup.

The vast majority of "warped" rotors actually just have some buildup. In many cases, running through the bedding procedure will burn off the buildup. Sanding may be required for very heavy deposits.

If you continue to get buildup, you may want to alter your braking habits (eg, do not come to a complete stop when the brakes are hot). Several threads on this site about bedding and braking.

Hit up kami speed, I got project mu's at my front door in like 2 days. Im sure they have any pad you could want.

Then do a solid break in. I did 3 40-10s, then about 10 60-20s and 90-30s then drove on the highway to let them cool

Sounds like you just need to rebed the pads to the rotors like others have mentioned. That said, for new pads check out Corner3 Motorsports. They have great deals on track parts.

Cool thanks everyone. I'm gonna try to re bed when the new brake pads come in. Now in that topic, does anyone have experience with project mu club racer pads vs carbotech xp10/xp8 combo? There's about a 20$ difference between both sets with the mu's being the more expensive.

Run Hawk Blues for a few hundred miles. Free sanding of rotors ;-). Then you will know if it is buildup or not. I always keep a set handy for JUST this situation.

Inspect the rotors (reface/replace if needed) or you'll just end up with the same problems.

To answer the question. Yes you can turn slotted or drilled rotors. It's best to use new bits, and take light cuts. If you see chatter marks after a slot. You either need to change the cutting bits, or take lighter cuts, or both. The chatter marks are the bit bouncing across the metal. Some places don't like doing them because of ruining the bits. They ruin the bits by taking heavy cuts.

As for your problem. Sand the rotors down, and rebed the pads.

Carbotech are pretty much the go-to pad, with excellent performance. I don't know that someone could get me to pay $1 more for anything else.

I've been happy with the performance of Carbotech XP10/8. I get 6 days up front and 7-8 in the rear. As others have said, you should try to rebed them -- though usually a few track sessions are good for that.
