toss goal difference out the window, i'd love to see if drogba can score like 6 goals by himself rofl

cow 06-21-2010 08:30 AM

Germany beat Saudi Arabia 8-0 in 2002.

cow 06-21-2010 08:38 AM

Did any of you guys see Ronaldo's sock had blood on it, Curt Schilling style?

DannyGT 06-21-2010 08:41 AM

FORCA PORTUGAL! I stayed out of this 'till now just because I know PT had 4-5 of the better players benched for injuries and I was very hesitant. But no more....

Let this be known...The team is called Portugal, NOT Renaldo. Renaldo cant do everything himself. Allow him to open up the game and we got capable goal scorers. This is the difference compared to the first game. We played like a team! Now this looks like the most impressive team in the whole competition.

Cant wait till Friday against Brazil (I have Brazilian in my family as well). I love both teams but my heart belongs to PT. I doubt Brazil will bring their A team since they are already through so it might not be a great comparison.

G37Sam 06-21-2010 08:44 AM

Ronaldo is a better play maker than scorer IMO, he should stick to it

What's the drama with Deco? Is he really injured or is there some sort of bs going on with his coach?

cow 06-21-2010 08:47 AM

Settle down, guy. Your team beat North Korea. Let's see how they look after playing tough teams.

I dont know about that...I think he is equal in both skills. The difference is during his club matches he's joined with the best players in the world that can play similarly to him which allow him to shine as a goal scorer. The problem is Portugal isnt Real Madrid and if he is going to wear that captain band he needs to be a leader and make plays happen.

I dont think Deco has been in good shape lately but then again between pt and brazil these coaches got some shady reasonings for some of their calls.

Right, and that team went 2-1 against Brazil. Nuff said...its still 7 damn goals and extremely exciting to see how well they play when everything isnt centered around one player. There is no settling down in football.

cow 06-21-2010 09:07 AM

If a team I supported got seven against North Korea, I'd be excited, but I'd temper that excitement & say, "Yup, it was against North Korea.

The Brazil argument doesn't work either. There is no transitive property in football.

Congrats on your win.

Nice, so Brazil won with a 1 goal diff, Portugal won with a 7 goal diff therefore Portugal will win with a 6 goal diff :ugh2:

DannyGT 06-21-2010 09:21 AM

Lol ofcoarse the arugment works...But it doesnt matter, like I said to some of my Brazilian brothers this morning. Seemed as if both had some first game jitters and played superb in their second attempt. Thats really all I wanted to point out.

If anything the World Cup shows more of the "any given Sunday" rule than nearly any sport. There has been many shockers and the fact our group is called the group of death shows how much people thought both IC and Korea would challenge the 2 top teams. So I could careless what team it was...they played "Joga Bonito" better than the Brazilians I have seen in recent memory...Unbelievable style and finese. 7 goals by 6 players. GG

No man, I'm saying, even Brazil didnt show the dominance that PT did...Ofcoarse I'm not doing the math like that. What are we 6 years old?

G37Sam 06-21-2010 09:35 AM

LOL I have to admit you did sound like one here:

If you were in the NJ area - the mecca for portuguese and brazilians - you would have understood what I meant. I'm not talking numbers, I'm talking about how well the teams both played against the same opponent. You cannot discredit what happened today, no matter what team it was against. Thats all I'm saying...stop hatin' LOL - anyway, I'm done until Friday! See you guys then, and good luck to your teams as well.

phelan 06-21-2010 10:22 AM

oh my god, i thought coulibaly was bad, but this saudi ref is enjoying his limelight. 8 yellow cards, 1 FAIL red being issued.

what the f*ck is with refs this tournament??

RCZ 06-21-2010 10:47 AM

Portugal is not going to fare well against brazil...

Go Chile, can't wait for the Spain game later today!

cow 06-21-2010 10:58 AM

The refs pre-Germany Serbia were great. Since then, they've been mostly good, but with a few high profile mistakes.

& DannyGT, stick around for all the days, don't just pop in when your team plays. We're all friends here.

phelan 06-21-2010 11:16 AM

1-0 to Chile, but congrats to the Swiss for setting the new record for no goals allowed. Behrami got the short end of the stick with that ridiculous red card, they might've been able to hold on with a full squad.

Spain Honduras will be interesting, I'm definitely watching now that Fabregas has been named to the starting XI

lol...

Fabregas, the Arsenal standout, told the Spanish newspaper Marca that he's "not getting the minutes I would like," and Pique also would like to see his teammate back in the lineup.
That in itself almost makes me believe Fabregas will not go to Barca this year, he'd never get minutes.

cow 06-21-2010 11:18 AM

I'm waiting to order the new Barca & Arsenal kits before I find out what Fabregas does. If he leaves, I'm going with Nasri.

That & I want the numbers to look right.

phelan 06-21-2010 11:23 AM

What do you think of the new away kit, cow? Looks kinda 'meh' to me.

Hope the home kit comes out clean. If Fabregas leaves, I might be going with a Vermaelen shirt lol.

I actually REALLY like the new away kit. I'll probably get it if it's made in long sleeve (I prefer long-sleeved kits for no good reason).

I already have a Sagna strip, so maybe I'd go with him again. Who knows.

I'm more than likely sticking with Iniesta for my Barca strip... or maybe I'll switch to Pique.

Did I miss something? Portugal beat North Korea by a touchdown. Did they switch to American football for a quarter or something? lol :owned:

G37Sam 06-21-2010 01:49 PM

Nice goal by Villa!

cow 06-21-2010 02:24 PM

Goal of the tournament to this point.

shadoquad 06-21-2010 02:26 PM

Damn. I can't watch it here. I'll have to wait til I get home.

@ Phelan:
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger still wants Laurent Koscielny - Transfers - ESPN Soccernet

English motherfucker!! Do you speak it?

phelan 06-21-2010 03:58 PM

Transfer for Laurent Koscielny has a lot better legs than any other transfer into Arsenal right now (or even out of Arsenal, considering this whole Cesc issue has been blown way out of proportion.)

Never watched him play so I have no idea what we're in for, but I said the same thing about Vermaelen.

AW really needs to look domestic though, Arsenal will continue to get hammered in the press as long as it continues to be dominated by French players. I'm not saying go out and get Joe Cole (meh I'm still not convinced he'd work in the Arsenal system), or refuse Gourcuff if he can get out of Bourdeaux, but someone needs to represent England other than Theo Fallout. Er...Walcott.

cow 06-21-2010 04:02 PM

I quite enjoy the lack of English players.

cow 06-21-2010 07:23 PM

I just saw the Suisse red. It was quite weak.
