Smash any car to bits and there'll probably be a fire. The Tesla is no different.

and at 75k, it's cheaper than what building my z into a track car was

I love the Z/28 for the way it does what it does well. The car is such a throwback (naturally aspirated, RWD, 6MT, stripped out, no frills etc...), and from what I've read the one thing folks who have driven the car seem to agree on is that it's an absolute blast to wring the hell out of this thing on a circuit. I think it's so disappointing when manufacturers all too often sacrifice driving excitement and enjoyment for a few precious tenths and ring times. What's also funny is that I've read a lot of snobbish "b-b-b-but, it's a POS Camaro" comments from haters, which is ironic coming from Nissan and GT-R fans given how the pro-Euro snobs trashed on the R35 when it first came to market. That said, as a track weapon and a full-blown tarmac terrorist, you can't take anything away from the Z/28. This thing is a beast when it's in its element. I love it, competition like this from around the way will only serve to make cars like the next GT-R and the next Z better. Kudos to GM for not being shy and for not holding the Camaro back the way they have in years past so as to not piss off the Corvette faithful.

track day insurance helps remove some of "stress" about that. of course, you the price to insure a $160K car for a track event would be $$$, then again, if you own a $160K and are tracking it, then you can swing it.

What I love is that Z28 out handled more powerful Porsche turbo. I can hear some Camaro driving mullet head now. It's not about power it's about balance and handling. What's next? Camaro club wine and cheese tours?

finally watched the GTR vs Z28 track time video.

soooo the Z28 was .28 faster.........with carbon ceramic brakes....and track tires. thats actually sad. i dont care about the little price difference. that "track-designed" Z-28 is cool and just as fast but i'll take my $75 and either buy a new Vette or go grab some more money and get a new GTR for a little extra.

Ok...

GT-R Premium: $101K
GT-R Track: $115K

Besides, for the track, the GT-R isn't nearly as well suited.

the differences between the 3 GTR models is about 20-50lbs of weight and no power differences. so i'll go get a 2014 premium for $85k and only have spent 10k more than the Z/28 and only be (coincidentally) .28 or so slower on a track lol

i'll take the GTR

No, it did not.

Quote:
As if on cue, here come the Camaro boys and their bag of timing equipment. After some laps Pilgrim describes as “edgy,” the data shows 1:35.76 -- 0.53-second quicker than the Z/28. Further data dissection shows the one area where the Porsche GT3 is making up time on the Camaro: down the straights. On the front straight, it's 6 mph faster, no doubt thanks to its lighter curb weight (3,153 pounds), slipperier body and quicker shifts
I know....it's a moot point really. Props to the Camaro for keeping up and it was noted that the Porsche was more difficult to drive.
