2014 chevy ss

Chevy's first V8 4 door sport sedan in over 17 years. It's amazing how chevy keeps coming through with affordable performance, over and over again, over the last two years.

Fun to drive, efficient, nicely styled, quality american cars. They keep getting overlooked, but Chevy has always been, somewhat of a sleeper brand as was the old pontiac.

Saw it in person when I was at Daytona in February. It's a good looking car.

I see some Veloster Turbo in the front bumper as well.

The new corvette and this Chevy do show some nissan borrowing. A lot of cars have been showing some nissan brrowing, especially from the GT-R. but you can't ignore an affordable v8 sports sedan. Chevy is picking up where the G8 left off. The G8 @ $35,000 was one hell of a machine. It put a hurting on the M5 for half the price.

The end of pontiac killed two entries with potential. The pontiac solstice. The pro was it had an untra-responsive engine with matching transmission. The down was numb steering and un-sports suspension. Nothing that KW couldn't fix but, it should have been better stock. If that car was able to evolve to the year 2013 and get these brand new GM sports suspensions. The solstice I think would be a hit today.

The ressurection of the G8 through the SS. I think is a breakthrough for v8, domestic autosports. To bring back a piece of our recent past that could've easily been left buried based on the economic/gas crisis.
The G8 was GM's first come back car, along with the GTO. These were the first two cars I respected in GM since the 92 camaro and 96 impala. This is great news imho, in spite of some resemblences to the GT-R that at least four other companies are guilty of.

That's because they stuck with a simple, rewarding formula: V8, large displacement for block size, cam-in-block designs.

My 427ci Z06 still got way better mileage than my 370Z gets. 500+ hp, too, out of an engine that weighs only around 450# intake to pan. Take a look at the G8, and other cars that use the LS series, and you will find them very heavy on power and light on gas. Ford screwed up until the Coyote came out in 2011YM cars. Noone else was even close, with LS1 late 90's vehicles mopping the floor with anything under $60K MSRP until here just recently.

Now GM has figured out competent suspensions, as well, and is setting 'Ring lap records, etc.

Recently evidenced, they are beginning to understand that people occupy the INSIDE of a vehicle!

Say what you want, but I own part of GM as an American Tax Payer, and whether I ever own another one or not, I damn well want them to succeed and make money hand over fist---because I paid into that company, and I want them to feed the economy and not squander it!

GT-R engine technology came from Ford. Lets not point fingers.

I think the G8 was the biggest loss, as you noted above. Total American M5 for a dime on the dollar. Nothing else like it existed in that bracket.

What do I really want? Really? A Chevelle SS. Make it big. Make it heavy. Make it powerful like the hand of an angry god. Make it everything the Chevelle was, and then refine it for today. It may not handle like a 'vette, and it may not sip gas like a Cruze, and it won't matter a damn.

It's a rebadged Holden VF Commodore SS-V that's been shown for some time now.

...the HSV variants pretty sick.

I wasnt pointing fingers. Just stating a fact. You seem to point fingers because 90% of your comments concerning GM is what GM does better than Nissan in spite of the total different direction in philosophy and driving enjoyment. But that's another can of worms I won't engage in.

All i said was a lot of companies have been taking from the GT-R styling. I said is as a fact and was in no way implied as a bash.

Fords patent for engine lining to prevent catastrophic failure is a Huge feat in the motor buiding industry. But don't act like Japan went using schematics from Ford to build a GT-R engine. When it comes to tech patents, Every MAJOR car company has something breakthrough the other will borrow.

http://jalopnik.com/5467038/the-ford...he-nissan-gt+r

Why GM gets better gas mileage?
V8 pushed to its midrange in power.
vs Nissan...
v6 pushed near it's limits without forced induction.

I'm sorry. That is just another anemic american car. Looks like any other Impala, G8, Malibu out there. Such a lack of inspiration in these designs. I am sure it is a great performer and has nice features but I would NEVER spend a dollar on a car that looked like that....

From a styling standpoint. It's average to me. With a few decent aggressive cues. I'm really praising the performance it brings. These are family sleepers. If you knew what it was like to get your doors blown off by a beat up malibu sedan in the 80's 90's??? You'll understand why this car is so important to GM.

Down the line, this will be that weak looking track car to make you cry when you lose $250-$1,000 at the track.

Like I said, it's basically a rebadged Commodore, a car that has been around since the late 70's, early 80's. The design of this car is rooted from the past models, including the HSV variants, which makes it an Australian design rather than American. This is actually closer to a working man's 5 series, rather than an M5. It shares the same GM Zeta platform as the Camaro. With the Corvette and Camaro in the stable, I really don't see a point to this car.

I remember very well the 'sleeper' cars of the past. HeII I owned a 72 Dodge Polara station wagon that seated 12! I installed a stroked and bored 360 with 340 heads and broke a lot of Trans Am drivers hearts! lol
But back then, everyone had a V8 so I never got 'blown away" by some malibu back in the day. My cruiser was a 68 Ford Falcon Futura with a 289 V8. I held my own....

It just doesn't make a lot of sense to spend all this R&D on an uninspiring box wrapped around a rocking drive train! Bring back the Barracuda....

I think this article explained it well.

2014 Chevrolet SS performance sedan a statement car for GM, analysts say | MLive.com

"This car is for the family guy who can't convince his wife to buy a corvette". I probably wouldn't buy one either, but having performance oriented cars on a high level makes performance car segment vibrant and competitive. I love the idea of an Affordable Sedan version of a Camaro. It makes every car company keep the realm of having power in cars alive.

As long as chevy does the right thing and build it in realistic numbers. I think it will do well.
