Also, Evolution Performance out of PA went 10.02 @ 141 with their '13 GT500 on slicks and bolt-ons. I think they are building the car for a magazine article so all of the details aren't out yet.

Edit: from someone there they say the only power mods are long tube headers, pulley, and tune.

I'm sure it will be raping the 9s when they finish with it.

Probably will be. That's pretty insane though.

Since we're kind of talking about everything here, these are some shots of a 2015 test mule. If you look closely you can tell it obviously is running IRS. Look at the wheel nut and then on the rear shots you can see the spring cup and some other bits.

( Click to show/hide )

For background, the S197 chassis was originally designed to accommodate IRS. The first GT500 was supposed to get it, but for one reason or another it didn't work out. Ford designed a bolt-in test system for it that you can see here, where it was found in an old warehouse: DrivingEnthusiast Blog | All about the missing S197 Mustang IRS

Obviously the one in testing now is quite a bit different as you can tell from the pic.

I also notice in these pics some nice front calipers and the rear rotors are definitely bigger diameter. If everything comes together as we expect (~3300lb curb weight, 450hp) the new car will be even more of a beast than current. The only question is how will it look.

The 2015 Mustang will not be faster than an F-22 Raptor. I think they've set their sights too low.

Entirely unrelated, but apparently in Forza Horizons you can race a Mustang vs. a P-51 Mustang.

My childhood dreams are finally here.

Is that GSP driving that? Did they just cover the gas cap??

1. Forza actually going to offer a current Mustang?

2. The top speed of a P 51 is 370mph. I think a 2015 GT500 will be able to top that. ;)

Theoretical top speed of the 13 gt500 (gearing) is 350mph.

Me thinks a "mustang" won't do that speed. The Bugati Verion only just manages 353mph.

Well duh. That's why I said theoretical. Its based off of gearing.

And the Veryon does not go 353mph.

opps... I meant to say 253mph for the Verion

6MT 06-07-2012 09:49 AM

maybe the 'stang would do that dropped from a couple of thousand feet (?)

This assumes no tumbling, because I can't calculate the correct answer.

Mustang has top speed of 260 mph* and we have the physics equations to prove it.

Under ideal conditions. Results in non-ideal conditions may vary.

b1adesofcha0s 06-07-2012 12:32 PM

While the mustang would go splat upon impact, a Jaguar would land on it's tires every time :p

Looks like a Control Blade IRS.

Lemers 06-07-2012 08:46 PM

Looking at the mule pics of the Mustang a question comes to mind. Is it possible to replace the SRA with an IRS?

If there was a bolt in system available, yes.

I think someone could sell a lot of a develop a good one

Are there any ford cars with IRS that are on the same platform that could be used?

It costs millions of dollars to develop. It would never happen. Especially since the SRA setup is so good to begin with. Cost-benefit doesn't add up. Any company that invested to make a good bolt in unit would only sell one or two and lose millions.

Remember in addition to the suspension parts you also need new brakes, lines, parking brake bits, differential, drive shaft, shocks/springs, etc.

I just keep seeing so much crap about the mustang not having an IRS and now they are going to it. Is it that much of an advantage?

m4a1mustang 06-07-2012 09:11 PM

If its a good IRS setup it can be advantageous. If they get it right I welcome it. But I'd always take a good SRA over a mediocre IRS setup.
