This 5.0's are badass. Has ford fix that transmission problem that was reported in jalopnik?

It's not really a problem, there were just a lot of vocal complaints from people that can't shift. The few transmissions that were actually defective (Like the early 370Z 6MTs) were all repaired or replaced AFAIK.

red6spd 09-17-2011 08:59 PM

LOL, We plan on it. Anything to see Red_Zed again. I'm not sure if u know but we are best bubs.

pretty much this. I've driven 5-6 new 5.0s and the transmissions have all been pretty solid.

Red__Zed 09-17-2011 09:39 PM

ugh, I'm gonna be outta town for the last two autocrosses of the season, mustang is gonna have to wait for next year :(

At least I should get to smoke run with blades in the t-rex

ct63084 09-17-2011 09:42 PM

No wonder i haven't heard anything about those issues lately.

there's still people complaining about it, just like there are still people that think all the Z transmissions have issues. The people complaining either
a: don't know how to drive a manual, or
b: came from a honda s2000

Only issue I have with the transmission is the distance between 1st and 5th in the mustang is about the spacing of 1-3 in the Z...still adjusting:roflpuke2:

So true. The tight spacing was tough for me to get used to at first -- I had a few accidental 2-5 shifts in normal driving until I got used to it.

Of course then I realized the car has enough torque just to do 1-3-5-6, 1-4-6, 1-5-6, or hell even 1-6. :icon18:

re torque: I started in 3rd today without even realizing it:roflpuke2:
UH MAY ZING

m4a1mustang 09-17-2011 09:54 PM

Yeah, it's good stuff. I loved the Z but one of the things I was really missing was the torque of a nice V8.

for me, the fact that the 5.0 is so much smoother all the way up to redline was important...plus the trans feels better to me...

Kinda funny...the engine roughness and the transmission feel from the Z are what I expected from the mustang, and vice versa...

Of course, the mustang looks like *** relative to the Z...luckily I can't see it while driving.

Yeah, the 5.0 is to me sort of what I expected the Z to be like (sans outright power). Of course I think the 5.0s look great; especially with the Boss 302 valence. Badass.

Z is much more of a sexy look, the 5.0 is more of an "i'm going to eat your kids for breakfast" kind of look. Mean as ****.

Taken anyone for rides yet? That's usually when the haters are like... "wait a minute... this is actually pretty f*cking awesome!"

They expect the power but are kind of blindsided by how quick it is on its feet and the absolutely incredible grip.

yeah, most of the hating was good-natured. the only guy that had a stick up his *** about things changed his tune pretty quickly after a ride...he's texted me from the ford dealer today:ugh2:

I do think the stang looks good, just not on the level of the Z.
The wheel gap literally causes my retina to bleed...:icon17:

And yes, from the driver's seat, the Mustang feels like an overpowered version of what I thought the Z would be.

Well then drop it already! I hear the Steeda Ultralite springs calling your name...

You know how it is up here in NOVA, so I'm keeping mine at stock height 'til they finish all this construction... in 2014.

Honestly I would, but my work parking lot is ****. I lost the air dams for my Z pretty quickly going in and out. Not looking to do that again. Though I may measure it out and see what I can do....the mustang doesn't sit as low from the factory, and my Z was down over 50mm at the end.

m4a1mustang 09-17-2011 10:10 PM

Steeda Sport springs will drop it a good bit, probably alright for you.

http://www.stranoparts.com/data/images/p30302121102.jpg

Those are actually what I want. A healthy wheel gap, and Sam thinks they are the best spring rate for the car without slamming the **** out of it.

m4a1mustang 09-17-2011 10:10 PM

I also want that red T5 Turbo behind the 5.0 in that pic.

Red__Zed 09-17-2011 10:11 PM

hmmm...that does look good. so tempting.

m4a1mustang 09-17-2011 10:12 PM

Yeah, definitely. I effing love the Brembo wheels too.

Red__Zed 09-17-2011 10:13 PM

I do too. I do wish they were a tad lighter/wider though.

Red__Zed 09-17-2011 10:14 PM

Speaking of the brembos, I still don't understand how this car stops so fast and so consistently

m4a1mustang 09-17-2011 10:14 PM

For a street wheel I don't care much about the weight... it's not that bad. Width, yeah, I wish they were 9.5 to accommodate 285 RE-11s all around. Perfect setup IMO.

yeah, that'd be really nice. Especially because stock class doesn't let you change rim size...and there's nothing worth running on the stock 9's, at least nothing you'd want to street.

They are fantastic. Keep in mind after about 5-10,000 miles you're going to want to take the pads out and grease the backings with brake quiet.

They are Ferodo DS2000 pads IIRC.

Red__Zed 09-17-2011 10:18 PM

good to know.

They do dust like a mother compared to the Z pads though....no clue how nissan managed that.

m4a1mustang 09-17-2011 10:21 PM

Aren't they full ceramic (the Zs?)

Red__Zed 09-17-2011 10:24 PM

don't recall

m4a1mustang 09-17-2011 10:25 PM

Whatever they are they are a really nice full street pad; long life, quiet, decent performance. We all know what happens when you take them out on the track, though.

Red__Zed 09-17-2011 10:26 PM

yeah, really can't do better for a stock street pad imo

m4a1mustang 09-17-2011 10:27 PM

Agreed.

I liked them so much I bought Akebono pads for the gf's Benz.

Red__Zed 09-17-2011 10:31 PM

i want a smaller steering wheel

m4a1mustang 09-17-2011 10:34 PM

Hmm... I don't think you'd appreciate a smaller wheel when you're ripping through the Dragon. This is the type of car that makes use of a bigger wheel, IMO.

Now I wouldn't mind swapping out my wheel for the suede wheel from the Boss.......

can you swap the sync buttons over? I thought about making that trade.

I just want like 1" smaller diameter. Wheel is too slow for me
