Does Ford recommend the same thing in the BOSS? I am curious if they think track use necessitates a heavier oil than this or not.

No clue on what they recommend for the BOSS.

I'm happy with PPS. Since I don't need to run an ester-oil to keep the Z happy I don't have to pay $12/quart for Redline anymore.

Red__Zed 09-27-2011 08:02 AM

I guess I'll see how pps goes

GZ3 09-28-2011 08:51 AM

going to try redline in the 5.0 this weekend...ill let everyone know...PP gave almost a full drain even with LOTS of hard driving! PP is prob one of the best oils i have used

m4a1mustang 09-28-2011 08:52 AM

Redline is good stuff. I have two or three quarts leftover from my Z. I use PP in the 5.0 now so I will be using the Redline for my AR-15. :icon17:

GZ3 09-28-2011 08:56 AM

:icon18:

it is good stuff, i dont know if its even needed with this car, but i do allot of hard driving and the Z loved it...

Red__Zed 09-28-2011 08:59 AM

I would only use German castrol on my ar.

I think you can really run whatever you want, but I just stick to 5w-20 because that's what is recommended. I use Pennzoil Platinum synthetic.

I'll take the credit for recommending PPS to you :hello:

Guys, I learn something new everyday. What is PPS? Is that Penzoil Platinum 5W-20? You'd recommend that over Amsoil 5W-20? And why so?

Hey GZ3! I ordered the same thing earlier this week! How do they sound compared to stock? Got a vid? After much research, I figured the Gt500's were the best sounding, not too loud, not too soft. The cost can't be beat either. How was the install? I'm assuming I jack it up or on ramps, and simple as pie?

what's o/r H?

PPS is Penzoil Platinum Synthetic, so yes.

I don't know much about Amsoil but I do know that PPS has really good oil analysis results and is a top grade synthetic. The 5.0 doesn't need Ester or anything like the Z did, so that's what I use. I like Redline, but it's not necessary.

Ah I see. I'll have to do more research on PPS. So you really like the stuff? I bet it's a lot cheaper than Amsoil too.

Hey Steve, on another note, been reading a lot about this infamous 5.0 engine ticking noise... do you have it or have any thoughts on it?

Alchemy 09-28-2011 10:44 PM

^ Damn, pretty impressive. I love guys that can drive their a$$ off and commentate at the same time.

Yeah, it is cheaper. Between $7-8 per quart depending on how you buy it (per quart or per jug).

I do have a little bit of an engine tick. But guess what? My 370Z ticked. My 2006 Civic ticked. My 2003 4.6L Mustang GT ticked. My 2002 Mustang V6 ticked.

Hell, my sister's Escape has a bit of a tick. So does our Chrysler Pacifica. Girlfriends Mercedes CLK500? Yep, that has a tick too.

Don't worry about it. The people on those forums complain like mad. Whatever it is it obviously isn't a problem.

If you have ticks, you may want to see a doctor

the_student 09-29-2011 01:43 PM

The only thing that really bugs me with the 5.0 in terms of looks is that antenna... It kind of sticks out.

Are there any types of antenna deletes?

Red__Zed 09-29-2011 01:46 PM

There are a ton of replacement options.

The option most popular with older mustang drivers is the "snap it off and listen to tapes" mod, gracefully accented with duct tape and a bent hanger for whenever the game's on the radio.

BS. The only people that snapped off old mustang antenna's were jealous 300ZX owners. :stirthepot:

Believe it or not, I don't own a watch, although I longingly eye the TAG's that people sometimes post on the gun-forums. One day I will be feeling froggy and leap on one. Crazy good deals out there on used watches during divorce/broken car/etc. type events.

I think I read somewhere that 300zx's were better balanced than Mustang GT's back then.
