I am frustrated with the GT500. The engine is killer! Yet they didn't upgrade the transmission behind it to allow drivers to shift it fast. The wheel-base is long. Yet they didn't put the wheels out back to take advantage. They dumped a lot of money into track-tuning the suspension around VIR but they put 2-piston brakes out back. They spent time/money with coating cylinder bores and they answer to driveline vibration is a 2-piece driveshaft that weighs over 20 pounds MORE than a 1-piece aluminum one. They just did so much of the car SO RIGHT! and then totally screwed up the package on nickel/dime stuff. |

Still, for what it is, it's amazing. Here is a better show illustrating the new brakes: ![]() And some neat little canards on the red one:

That's Ford for you. And remember this is a $55k dragster not a $150k exotic. Ford had to make compromises.

And yes, those are 6-pot fronts.
With both cars you can clearly see the lower control arms. Not sure what R&T was thinking...

I'm going to remain hopeful that 6-pots up front mean better things all around and they are just systematically testing it. Ford has a real winner if they can tweak the bean counters arm juuuuust a touch! |

I like the regular Mustang front with the Boss 302 valence.

IC, the rears are a good bit larger:

Holy crap. You are dead-right! I had forgotten how big the brakes on my G20 really were. Jeez what was Ford thinking with those.
In their defense, it stopped like 2 feet shorter from 60 or 70 or something than the Z06 carbon and GT-R in Edmund's testing, which is insane. However, I bet it only did it once every half hour, lol. |

The advantage to the small rear rotors is that you can fit a 15" wheel with some slicks on them for the strip. ![]() But I definitely welcome bigger brakes as I am not a drag racer.

For me, on the street with the most spirited driving (Dragon runs) I experienced absolutely zero fade. The fronts do the brunt of the work and they are fantastic. At this point, I figured it'd be nice to inform you that the rears aren't even two-pots... they are one. It makes me laugh because I am always like, "how can these be better than the Akebonos?" But somehow they are!
