The 5.0 gets more and more intriguing to me every day. If it wasn't for the fact that everyone and their mother owns one, I might think about trading my 370 in for one.

It matters to you that much what other people think about your ride or that you won't be "special" enough? 99% of people you encounter every day won't care. Own the vehicle that best fills you up inside. If that is a torquey V8 will a lot of mod potential, then the 5.0 is going to do it for you.

Vegitto-kun 02-21-2011 02:11 PM

if I got the mustang it would be the second one in belgium. According to a friend who works at the place where they give out the number plates only one new 5.0 is registered in belgium.

EL Diablo 02-21-2011 02:53 PM

I test Drove a 2011 5.0 today.

I liked the car a lot. Met my expectations.

The 5.0 and 370Z are such different driving experiences.
I like each for different reasons.
If I had the coin I'd own both of them.

The Z is the perfect canyon carver and the Stang to Cruise the Highways.

m4a1mustang 02-21-2011 06:56 PM

Which 5.0 did you drive? Regular or Brembo package car?

6MT with Comfort Package and 19" wheels
unfortunatley they did not have a Brembo car on the lot.

If I could pull the trigger on a GT I'd take a Brembo car with the 3.73

You can get a crazy deal on an '11 GT right now. There are some dealers out here with a a ton of '11's on the lot and they are willing to deal.

Believe me I've crunched the numbers and if I didn't have to eat beans for 2 years a 5.0 would be parked next to my Z right now.

m4a1mustang 02-21-2011 07:53 PM

Ah yeah, the Brembo cars feel a lot different than the regular ones (they are about as stiff as a NISMO).

I was in the same boat... I'd love to have the 370 (in Roadster form) and a 5.0 in the garage!

The Non Brembo cars ride felt almost like a luxury car to me.
Very airy... I think if I test drove a Black Brembo car I'd do something dumb... I'd buy it.

The Coyote is just Evil. And that's what keeps calling me.

m4a1mustang 02-21-2011 08:23 PM

It's the smoothest engine I've had the pleasure of driving. Torquey as hell in the low range and it just pulls all the way to 7k. Love it.

I hear ya on buying one. I was being a good boy for a few months keeping myself out of Ford showrooms, 'til one day I showed up to the weekly Z meet and no one else was there. So, I went to the dealership, test drove one, and the rest was history! To think if only someone had showed up to the meet. :icon17:

Really? I drove the brembo package, and I didn't find it stiff at all. I still thought it was very comfortable. IMO, other than looks(subjective) and handling, the stang is a superior car. Hopefully I don't get mauled for saying this...lol.

Lemers 02-21-2011 11:16 PM

One day I will face a choice, either buy a new car or buy a new engine.

It was definitely stiffer than my Z, that's for sure. It's NOT as stiff as a NISMO with the shipping spacers left in (:icon17:) but I feel like it's pretty close to a regular NISMO. Closer to the NISMO than the regular Z in terms of stiffness, IMO.

They'll never make THAT mistake again, Steve! Who knows where you'd shop next! You'll show up with a Lambo or LFA. That'll teach 'em

I dont see where everyone says the 5.0 is faster. I have race one with my stock Nismo 4 times. Won each race by about a 1 1/4 car length.

Was the other car booted? :bowrofl: jk, racing is always more about the driver than the vehicle, though.

Can the stock Nismo, finish the 1/4 mile in 12.7? Everyone says its faster because it is.

m4a1mustang 02-24-2011 01:49 PM

Drag racing is always a crap shoot. If you can't launch your times are going to stink. The 5.0 is actually really tough to get down the track because it's under tired. On the Brembo cars you have 255 width Pirellis all around that spin spin spin with just about every shift, so it's really easy to go slow with the car if you are too aggressive with your right foot. :icon17:

The car needs at least a 275 width rear.

in lieu of not stirring the pot a few months back i chose not talk about all the runs I had with my Bro in laws 5.0 at car days at our Air Force base...stock for stock, especially on rolls i was never blown away, never got more than a single car on me, and the higher the roll, the closer i was...like i said from a dig they can be pretty nasty in the right hands but there is allot of hype surrounding this car. The meat of the owners arent getting this amazing fantastic times. Infact my friends with LS1 have been beating them mod for mod...I was also shown some vids on youtube where the 5.0 loses to LS1...faster than the Z, yes i would say so...but its no where near the legendary percieved status this car has gotten. Great car dont get me wrong but you will be suprised. :stirthepot:

awesome numbers! Nothing that hasnt been seen from a LS1 10 years ago or LSX though....big step for mustangs, but in the big picture of perfromance vehicles nothing that hasnt been seen from a V8 years ago

It's not a big deal for an LSX because those engines are huge, old school pushrod designs. They can make a lot of N/A power with head/cam upgrades.

To pull 507 whp on a Dyno Dynamics ("heartbreaker") machine from a naturally aspirated OHC 5L V8 is a pretty big deal, IMO.

Anyone with any knowledge whatsoever understands that our OHC engines favor boost. So any time you can lay down some nice numbers N/A it's always a big deal. These aren't LSXs!

true I agree with you steve, but pushrod vs sohc vs ohc vs dohc is just the nature of the beast and what each manufacturer choses to build. I wanst aware the new 5.0 needed heads either!?? huh?

m4a1mustang 02-25-2011 09:56 AM

It doesn't "need" heads but in this case the 507 whp car had cams + heads as part of a traditional N/A build.

Wait... do you mean like... need heads to make the 507 whp figure or need heads to... function?
