Ford Taurus SHO
The 3.5L EcoBoost™ is the first North American production twin-turbocharged direct-injection V6 engine. And Taurus SHO is the first and only vehicle in its class* to feature the EcoBoost engine. This engine provides better fuel economy** and fewer emissions than a V8. EcoBoost combines two different technologies – turbocharging and direct injection – to deliver the performance of a much larger engine with the fuel economy of a smaller engine.** It churns out 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque across a wide 1,500 – 5,000 rpm range. And it does all that with an estimated 17 city/25 highway fuel economy.** Compared to a naturally aspirated engine, the 3.5L EcoBoost twin turbocharged direct injection V6 engine provides higher performance, better fuel economy** and fewer CO2 emissions: • Improved transient response enabled by the direct injector reduces “turbo lag,” overcoming the traditional disadvantage of downsizing and boosting • More efficient fuel consumption is the result of a high compression ratio enabled by direct injection, which provides air charged cooling *Class is five-passenger Large Car. **EPA-estimated 17 city/25 hwy (AWD).
I think this car is kind of stupid. It gets mediocre fuel economy. All this eco boost crap does is take their 4400 lb car which would otherwise get HORRIBLE fuel economy, and allow it to get mediocre/poor fuel economy. Go Ford!. why don't they just try not putting eco boost in and take 1000 pounds of unnecessary weight out of the car? but that wouldn't really cater to their target market of people who think that heavy american cars are automatically safer because they are heavy and american. |

they're trying to compete with the bmw TT 6 that they use across so many vehicles (335, 135, 535, etc). Like Lug said, imagine if its in other models. If its a successful engine, it could be used on a lot of the Ford platforms.
I don't know how heavy the Taurus is, but I bet it could probably shed a few pounds. It can be difficult though, having to deal with all the safety regulations that have to be put in place. That alone adds a lot of weight to a car. |

Go check one out... they are actually very nice vehicles! I wouldn't buy one but wouldn't mind having one.

Weighing in at 4400 lbs, it might go okay in a straight line given the amount of horsepower but it isn't going to go around corners like an Infiniti G35/37.

Keep in mind, this thing with four adults (150lbs each x 4 for example) weighs about 5000 pounds. This eco boost engine is like someone taking HydroxiCut and eating a whole pizza. Just skip the pizza and you don't need the hydroxicut. I guarantee you the R&D that went into this engine was more costly than figuring out how to make the car weigh less than the moon. |

I can't imagine that the new engine weighs any more than the previous SHO's 3.4L V8. The weight was added purely by making the car bigger and stronger.
I have no complaints about the new engine, it is powerful and fuel efficient (at least it would be in a lighter car).

I believe the new engine is going to eventually be offered in several platforms, the SHO just happens to be the first.

i agree, the car is a useless tub of lard. typical ford junk, and with a hefty price tag! I'd rather have the equally priced g37x or slightly more expensive 335xi. On the other hand the engine does seem pretty good. They should find a better application for it than this car. Why not put it in the mustang? Pretty ironic that a taurus has more power than ford's flagship car

That's because the Taurus is really a Ford "Five Hundred", which didn't sell, so they renamed it "Taurus".
