I gave those up long ago.

10:1, if there ever is a new Z, it will be at least in part electric. Toyota knows that they need to move in that direction as well.

At least a hybrid powertrain would let you keep going when the juice ran out. After all, the idea of a true sports car is to take long drives from A to A, with no reason other than to drive. Time spent stopped, recharging batteries is time wasted. But hauling around the heft of meaningful batteries runs counter to the definition of a sports car. Supra is too heavy in current form already. Probably all that BMW luxury!

Long live the petrol powered sports car. But realistically, probably not that long.

Th e supra I s definitely not disappointing in terms of performance. I wish they invented their own interior though. It still looks like a preproduction.

The Supra is ugly AF. Looks like a 370Z driven through a nuclear waste dump. If Nissan does come out with a new Z after all, and it has a duckbill spoiler like the Supra, it would be a disgrace. The Supra interior looks like a regular BMW sedan- doesn't seem like a sports car interior at all. No manual transmission. Maintenance costs would be sky-high and Toyota dealers will not know how to work on what is basically a BMW.

Makes you wonder if the turn signals work on these...

My apologies if someone already posted this - but if it the Supra is beating out the M2 Competition along with the Cayman while being cheaper and assuming more reliable (Toyota quality), it will definitely put the Supra on the top of the list for me.

There is no Toyota quality here friend. It's a BMW Supra. And the king of cheap sports cars yet reliable with performance is dormant right now. I'll give you a hint, it's name ends with the last letter of the alphabet.

I’m sure it’s buried somewhere in this 20 page topic - but there is a video of the collaboration between BMW and Toyota. The reliability was definitely on the Toyota part and they made it a point to kick things back if it didn’t pass Toyo’s standards. I’m not disagreeing with you that the whole BMW and Toyota collab is a bit frustrating, lack of a manual option as well as the interior looks more BMW than Toyota; but it seems like it might be a real competitor within a decent price point. I would at least WANT (doubt anyone will be able to do it till you agree to price/financing) to test drive it to see if it’s all hype or if there is something.

Oh I know it will be a fun to drive just because it's BMW. I used to own a E92 M3. Most of their cars except the SUVs are pretty fun. This new BMW looks like it is a higher performer (at least on paper) and lighter weight than my ancient E92.

Crazy that they have wasted all they hype of the launch by not following it up with product. That cannot be planned. So are there quality problems, production issues, or what?

I went in search of one again yesterday. Nothing but blank stares from the dealership when I tried to get a drop date.

It seems that by the time someone actually spots this unicorn, the next big thing will take some of the wind out of Supra’s sails.

They might be gauging interest in it before deciding on how many to build. They don't want to build say 50,000 and only sell 35,000. Then have 15,000 sitting going for a reduced price later. That would hurt them.

From experience with other launches, they get expressions of interest (even down to deposits on some cars), and once people find out cars just aren't coming in enough volume to meet demand, 60% back out. They hear about the next "flavour of the month" and decide to wait for that. Or in this case, jump to the BMW twin. Once early adopters start posting problems or mediocre reviews, even more people start to question the wisdom of continuing to wait.

So, in the end, they sell a lot fewer cars. Toyota doesn't need to flood the market, but they had numbers to make a business case for the car. They should have timed the release to coincide closer to actually having units to sell.

Somebody needs to throw himself on his sword, if this was the plan. The other options are that issues have come up in pre-production cars (cooling, for instance), or there are production problems.

If anybody is thinking about getting the new Supra, I would just wait for the new RX7 but I heard that it is going to cost more than $50k..

These dyno numbers are sick. Downpipes intake exhaust BOV and a stage 1 conservative tune will probably throw it in the GTR world.
