2011 Mustang V6 Revealed

I've seen Mustangs successfully negotiate a track, but most of them had heavily modified suspensions.

Mustang's still use live rear axles...inferior technology. Even with massive suspension mods it still leaves a lot to be desired. I would say the best mustang of the decade was the 2003-2004 Cobra, the blown engine was dynamite and it had a rear irs suspension. Too bad the driver is usually a dkhead.

I wouldnt be surprised if the VQ37 weighs more than an LS1.
who said rotary?

Nobody - but I was thinking of the heaviest, low-displacement motor I could think of lol. Those are pretty damn low, and heavy as hell.

I agree, the supercharged Cobra's with IRS were bad-***. A friend of mine sold his last year for a mere $18K. He used to flog that thing around the track with some heavy boost until he lifted a head. If I was a muscle car guy I would have bought it off him in a heart beat.

There is an IRS conversion available for the newer Mustangs but it is cost prohibitive. The live axle can be made serviceable at the track, but IRS takes the mid-corner bumps better.

Time to break some hearts. Red370 does not assume, Red370 knows. 4.6L V3 = 420lbs. 5.0L = 543.7lbs and a grand total of.... 123lbs gained. Unfortunately in this case, more displacement = more weight.

Chevrolet lists the following:
LS1:
Al. Block 107.1 lb.
Al. Head 20.3 lb.
Dressed with all accessories 457.6 lb.

No, the LS1 does not weigh less than the VQ37.

And you are getting this weight from...where?

Most anything, save for the displacement and a few pictures, is theoretical about the Coyote project.

Amazingly vague. Links.

And on that note, where is the stated weight of the VQ37 while you're at it? I never said the LS1 actually weighed less - I said I wouldnt be SURPRISED if it did.

Anyone specific?
The engine has not been picked exactly yet, yes it is going to be a 5.0L but there are a few variants currently.

Not that I needed to post this, but thanks Dreamer - precisely my point.

Yep, having two co-workers who are Mustang addicts, they are wondering where this info is coming from, they would love to know how much this stuff is going to weight as they want to share it.
