Looking for input on a 2nd gen CTS-V

I'm looking for something a bit different than my Z. I'm considering the 2nd gen CTS-V sedan. Anyone have any input on it or experience in it?

I tagged along on a test drive a few yrs ago, my quick impression was:

Get the 6MT if you can find one. AT box is rather sluggish, detracts from the car imo, especially compared to the current offerings. Stupid amount of power, and magnetic dampers put the power down quite well.

The dealership was located in an industrial area, next to highway. Service road and on ramp was a bit undulated. I wouldn't feel safe to slam the gas on the Z. But the CTS-V hung on to the pavement under heavy throttle. Same for when my buddy floored it in first gear through a really rough intersection...Z's TCS would've lit up and hardly accelerate, the V skipped a few beats but put it down better than I expected.

Test one, it's addictive for sure

I actually had a '09 Sedan automatic. As stated above definitely try and find a manual as it will come with Recaro seats which is a must if you track or autocross the car. I didn't mind the auto it shifted fast enough for autocross and straight line pulls. However watch the revs because once the LSA hits boost it's gone! If you're not worried about fuel consumption then then get it. If your using it as a daily plan on weekly fill ups depending on miles driven a day. At the end of the day it is a Supercharged 6.2L V8!

Here's one of my only summer events in the car.

Thank you both for the input. The car will not be a DD and I don't care about fuel cost, I mainly want something fun my whole family will fit in. I'm excited about the idea especially after looking into some basic mods, (pulleys, intake/exhaust, headers and a cam) it looks like reaching 700hp is pretty easy and cheap. My Z is up for sale now but probably wont pull the trigger on its replacement until spring.

Not personally, but a buddy has the wagon version and is sitting somewhere between 8-900hp. Thing is an absolute beast, and has a car seat in the back for those occasions as well. Track car, family hauler, it does it all.

I had a sedan and now have the coupe. Both with Recsros and six speed. Great car and pulls like a freight train. Pretty stout and reliable. Issues can be noisy rear diff and noisy blower. Both easily fixed. Nav is old but who cares and has big internal hard drive you can record CDs to. Coupe has small rear seats. Not kid friendly. With 1500 in mods you can get over 100 hp and 100 torque increases. Go with headers, pulley, intakr, and tune and your real rocking for 5k. Brakes need nothing at all. You can do springs and sway bars to tighten it up a bit. As said you can scare people with it as well.

Nice vid, looks like PPIR. I lived in Denver/Golden for 10 years. The roads there were amazing and spoiled me. I was on a kick for a while where my goal was to ride 500 miles a week...such good riding out there.
