FPenvy I'll be at Cars n' Coffee Saturday morning. Taking the bike (blue gixxer). I'll be wearing a white jacket and have a female also wearing a white jacket (unless we take them off :p ). Should be there from 9 until about 10:30 or so. Hopefully we can meet up there if you are going still.

i am going as well. i got picked to test drive the tesla model S that tesla is bringing for us to try out. my test drive is at 10:45 and lasts 15 minutes.

i will probably not be staying too much longer after that since i have to go pick up some friends around 1230 to go out to ohio for a golf trip til tuesday.

but i will be trying to get there as early as possible.

Awesome. Glad we both are getting there early. I'm sure you'll enjoy the Tesla. I know a guy from the VW forums actually was required to drive one for a weekend for work. He said it was a fun car to drive and definitely had some get up (can't remember if it was the sport model though)

ZeeZee 06-27-2014 08:35 AM

Yeah FP, keep us posted how the Tesla response compares to an electric golf cart! ;)

Of course I missed when you arrived and left. Great meeting you and you dad.

Your Z looks great.

Did you install your exhaust yourself??

FlyByGTI 06-30-2014 10:08 AM

FPenvy (trying to avoid your real name since some people are very particular about that), you said you and your dad have a car paint setup?? Thinking about possibly getting my gf's car painted as a surprise for her bday. You guys think you could do something like that??

i said the only thing we really dont do is paint and body work lol. that stuff we sub out. my dad used to 25 years ago and hastn since so we just got people for that now.

ZeeZee 07-03-2014 05:37 PM

FP. How was the Tesla ride? Also what's the deal with this plasti dip bodywork? I saw a GTR a few weeks ago and I'm indecisive about it. Looks like a stone chip would peel the paint/skin of it?

Hmm I was hoping that I could meet up with you after my exhaust comes in (comes in Monday yesssssss). Figured it would be easier with 2 people.

Damn I knew you said something about paint and bodywork. Clearly I missed the most important part of that sentence :shakes head:
Any recommendations on shops to do a full body custom paint job?? Vinyl wrapping was much more expensive than I had initially planned on but I'm starting to think that I may do it myself because that seems to be the cheapest of all options haha

tesla ride was actually pretty good. thing def has the torque that they brag about.

started out and first thing the girl tells me was "punch it!" she regretted that decision lol i tried maxing that bitch out in the first 10 seconds of being in it.

the test ride also sold my pops on wanting to get my mom the tesla suv next year when it releases lol

sorry i've been absent from here all weekend and slightly last week. training a new employee at work so my play time on here was limited and the weekend my gf was in town so no forum time.

but cat back part of the exhaust is pretty simple to do. removing the cats is a bitch. good ole demon bolts lol

i never really looked into paint shops locally for custom work. i know my friend out by carlisle PA just vinyl wrapped his whole car on his own and it looks good. so thats def possible. then again he also built his own single turbo kit so he's pretty crafty lol

That's the only way to do a test ride. Yeah the one guy I know that had to drive one for a weekend for work said that it was a blast to drive which was unexpected.

Maybe I'll win the 24 hour Tesla experience and whip that bish around

Ha it's cool. Trust me, I don't forum much (if any on the weekend either way). I have some jack stands but wanted to make sure that those would be enough (with a safety jack in place since I'll be doing it alone) would be enough. I also don't actually own a torque wrench so I wanted to make sure that I would be able to do it all without one of those as well.

I was actually thinking about doing the vinyl wrap myself for her. Maybe give her the present now since doing it in December would suck to do

yea if i win that 24 hour test drive i'm beating the hell out of it lol

yea if you just got a cat-back set-up coming in then you should be fine with just jack stands. i put my mufflers back on the other day with just jack stands and it took longer to get it set-up then the switch needed. i didnt use a torque wrench on mine just a normal wrench/socket and went til it was tight. after the first 100 or so miles after my initial installation i went back under and checked the bolts.

That definitely puts me at ease a bit. Debating if I wanna try to get it done after work one night and hope I can finish before the sun goes down or tease myself every single day with the box in my apartment until the weekend

I may have ridden near you a number of times over the weekend. I was cruising all day Saturday on the bike.

From the DIYs I've seen it looks like I should only need about 2 sockets (I think 14mm and 10mm) and some stands as well as some wd-40 if I have some really stuck on bolts, but other than that shouldn't really be anything else.

i was driving around with the girl in the Z all weekend as well so may have passed you.

yes wd-40 would be ideal especially if you have some miles and corrosion on the car. when i did my exhaust i had maybe 3k miles on the car. so things were still pretty new and clean lol

I hope I have some laying around. Otherwise off to the store. Guess I should wait until I have the exhaust at home before I deal with that part of it.

Yeah I thought about it after I ordered it. Couldn't decide where to send it, but since I figured I'd be in the parking lot doing the install I should just go to my house. Now I have to go to FedEx and fit the box in my trunk then drive it home

Still don't have my exhaust damn you FedEx. Was supposed to be sent to an office for me to pick up last night and they never sent it out *sigh*. Hopefully I'll have it today.

F, you think 2 jack stands should be enough or do I need to get the whole car up (aka 4 stands)

FlyByGTI 07-09-2014 09:24 AM

Also F, were you at ZDayZ 14?? Was looking through the site and saw someone with an 09 Z coming from Pittsburgh

Ummm id have to say 4 would be ideal. Not 100% since I did mine on a lift. But if I didn't I would think having the whole car in the air would be better to drop it all at once. And also to put the new one on with plenty of space to work on it.
