Bump.

Guys, had to turn back. Belt was bumper-2-bumper for many exits...ambulances passing, etc. Just can't deal right now. I'm trading in my Z on Monday ... I'll bring my new car to the meet on Wed.....until then, it is a surprise.
Lets just say it will still be a Nissan. :worship: |

is it a... GTR? :yum: |
I know. Love the Z but after FI, exhaust , suspension, rims and styling Id be approaching used GTR prices. But Id still be able to
fit only 2 people and have real wheel drive. heh. Didnt think Id care but decided to just go for it. |
hah, i thought you were kidding. do it ben, get that car, glad someone who wants the car and appreciates it can have one, drive it like you stole it, and AWD makes it a good winter car right??? lol

Bam 1000.
And holy sh*t, Ben getting a GTR? That was pretty fast. |
Quote:
what year are you getting? |
Hey - yeah, was quick. I guess I knew this would happen sooner or later - After buying the Z I was already missing the space and comfort of my S4 and the utility of the AWD in the rain. But more so the comfort of the S4 plus all the room.
I've wanted a skyline, r*, whatever since...well always, and I decided instead of dumping a bunch of money into the Z, I'd just get a GTR instead. I got a 2009, ~17k miles, dealer doing 18k service on it, trading in the Z (saving a few bucks on tax that way, giving me a fair trade price). I talked to the previous owner in depth about the car (he's onto his 3rd GTR, 2012 heh). Car's never been launched or tracked according to flicker data, car is 100% stock, still has 3 year bumper-2-bumper for a few months and 5 year/60k powertrain till 2014. I'm well aware of the transmission issues in the '09. Can't say I'm not a little worried, but this car is 100% stock on OEM fluids with powertrain for another 2+ years, so *if* anything happens, it should be covered by Nissan without putting up a fight. Otherwise totally stoked to get the car. Will be picking up on Monday and I'll come through on Wed with it. I plan to drive in the snow, rain, sleet, hail, thunder, etc etc. Sure I won't be barreling around in 12" inches of snow, but I plan on driving it in the winter. I don't plan on modding the car at all for the first year or so. I might throw a Y-pipe in for Spring to change the exhaust note a bit, but otherwise, car will remain stock for duration of the warranty (I will try very hard to not mod immediately hehehe) Oh, car is Titanium Bronze..looks amazing! Also, my part-out thread will go up on Tuesday of next week - super fair prices on all my ****, just want to offload it quickly. And I still plan on rolling to the 370z meets at Great Neck - always a good time. Bummed I missed the meet last night, but the Belt was ridiculous. I didn't want to risk some butthead rear-ending me in the Z right before I'm about to trade it in. Belt + Cell phone/txting == accident. |
sk , that so god damn sweet.... those cars are absolute monsters!! Have you driven it? How much "bigger" does it feel than the Z?
I think a cobb tune would be safe with the warranty as it easily goes on and off but I am not sure, but the power you get from just downpipes and tune is absurd!! no one seems to leave them bone stock... but if you do , I would love to have a friendly comparison between your stock 09 and my 08 135i with full bolt ons and meth... I should run a mid 11 sec 1/4 with radials and meth on my 135i... And from a roll its a pretty good car, it pulls real well up top.. Meth isnt installed yet but will be by next week... Id love to see where i stand against a stock gtr... Im going to the track tomorrow and probable next friday after i get meth... I know your not gonna want to go this soon but some day before you mod id love to compare some how, haha... my car with meth should trap right around 118-124 with good gas which i think is around gtr trap ... should be a good comparison .... regardless the gtr shlts on the Z and 135 and pretty much every other car on the road , haha.... congrats on the purchase... thats really a sweet transistion... im curious how it goes for you... esp since you have a MT and you are going to the DCT..... post pics asap! now i really have to make it out to one of these wednesday meets.. lately i have been going to open gym for basketball but Ill have to skip it to see/sit/hear this new beast of yours |

i'm sure he'll enjoy the stock power bump for a while for sure before he needs to worry about modding. it does have 485bhp :) |

Ben -- Try to throw those winter tires / rims you got on there from the Z i'm sure it will fit.

Going to take a wild guess that GTR aren't generally owned by the kinds of people that do winter setups... Ben will probably be the first one in this area.
After dumping a ton of money on his Z, and now a GTR I'm sure the last thing he wants to do is put Blizzaks on huge oem rims... Has to be something reasonable he can do, and is worth a shot IMO. Someone at Vinny Ten, or Performance can probably help him out... Edit in... If people are doing GTR wheels on 370z, why not the other way around? http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...eels-370z.html |
Ok, lots to say/thinking.

I'm going to wait to do the tune - I will probably do the AP, exhaust and custom tune by my buddies @ VTR. They are getting pretty nice #s. But that will be in time... heh.... Quote:

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys. This is great, I'm definitely going to stay active on these forums and the meets. You guys are solid. :tiphat:  :excited: :happydance: :driving: :usa: :D UPDATE: ugh, heh, cheapest setup for wheels/tires on tirerack is: 3,660.00 heh and that doesn't included TPMS. Some people are saying you run the risk of damaging the run-flats if you remove them and attempt to re-mount. I'm not sure of the validity of that statement. Maybe I'll turn my OEM rims into winter rims (mount tires on them) and get new rims/tires in the spring (though not sure I want to spend the money right now). Perhaps I can find some used GTR rims ... |
Fn sweet. See you next Friday. Only atco is open on weekdays now though. Or I can go following Tuesday.
Jeff they're are 1's in 11.0x@?? With either nitrous or rb turbos. I'm a front mount and a few hours to install meth away from fbo and all the potential to be mid 11s. Jeff you should come too. I have a few aggressive maps to try with help from Terry the owner of jb4 for tomorrow. I'm really not sure how my car will launch. I think I may need a little practice but I'm almost certain I'll go atleast sub 12.5 Also at the track a high meth additive with proper fuel works wonders For power. I will have 100+ octane with no meth tomorrow and next Friday or Tuesday , I'll have the meth installed. I already have drag radials. I don't settle for the norm Jeff! |
What time you heading to the track? Want to caravan? VTR mentioned holding a possible track day that day maybe we can all link up.
Im in LI now getting my LTH and CBE returned to stock.:( |
You can put GTR wheels on a Z, but you'd need to downsize the tire profile in order to get the overall wheel/tire combo to fit. Ben have you looked at 19" winter tire setups? plenty of people run 19's on the GTR....
Ben, don't price out 20" winter tire setups they are ridiculous... look for 18's or 19's. and take it from a guy who has gotten TPMS put in all of his aftermarket wheels.... just dont bother. i never even got mine synced. deal with the light for 3 months of the year and put your summers back on. wheel sizes and tyre diameters that near match OE 20" wheels(standard) 255 40 20 = 712mm 285 35 20 = 707.5mm 19" wheels 255 45 19 = 712mm 285 40 19 = 710mm 18" wheels 255 50 18 = 712.2mm 285 45 18 = 713.7mm 18" wheels that fit (make a sticky pls) - GT-R Register - Official Nissan Skyline and GTR Owners Club forum look for some cheaper 18's you can easily get a winter tire/wheel setup for <2k maybe even <1500. I'm down to go to the drag strip in spring. I dont really have time right now and its cold :P march i'm down to go. |
I can't believe an 18'' wheel can clear the GTR brembo BBK, thats nuts.
Don't do 18's, unlike Jeff who loves huge tires and small rims... the GTR is a big bulky car, get 19s at least. This isnt a 370z, a GTR with 18s looks horrible and cheap. |
Well I'm on my way to atco right now a s traffic is rediculous. Left at 2. Next time I'll leave at 12 an get there nice and early and get food and stuff.
Have 1/4 tank should get there with none and fill with some 110 Mad I didn't get meth in and left too late but whatever. It'll be good practice today atleast. As for water setup do they make conti dws In stock Gtr size ? They are on my 135. Great tire with awd should be on snow. I just got Dunlop sport m3 winters tho. For my oem wheels Even though I don't know you I'm excited to sort of know a Gtr owner that will use it like I would. Does you 09 have launch control ? |
That sucks you can't use the 370Z wheels. Those winter setups seem like such a rip off... I had a thought that AWD may help you a little, and you can prob get away with all season tires on those stock rims and save a few bucks.
|
Def had fun at atco. Empty and ran well.
Did best of 12.3@117.6 couldn't launch for shlt! Lmao Too cold or my nt555rs aren't that great. But with no IC or meth and first time out I guess I'm happy. ESP with the trap speeds. High trap was 118.1. This is straight out of the can jb4 aggressive map. Sk you def down to go still ? Not 1 Gtr here tonight !! Either next Friday or following Tuesday. And dec 3 a guy i met here is renting it out $60 a head. |
