Default Real Auto Dynamic - Queens, NY

So, This is my first season with my Z. I just about have all my bolt-ons ready to go and ready for tune. I see Real Auto Dynamic in Queens is highly recommended here so I have been in contact with them recently for pricing. I let them know I am member here and that I was referred to them by a very good customer who they acknowledged and is a also member on this forum.

Please let me know your opinion on the pricing they are giving me. Stated current labor rate is $110.

“Installation of one pair of extended stud wheel spacers: $250-350 because the calipers and rotors needs to be removed and replaced.”

-From what I’ve read, the price for the spacer install seems high.

I actually have just acquired upgraded z1 lightweight rotors, but this is after I got quotes from them. Should be little to no installation fee for this since already going in there for spacers correct ?

"Installation of Swift Springs: $350 *
Installation of SPL Rear Camber kit: $150"

- I know this isn't a quick job but didn’t realize install was going to be $500 to get a drop. 4.5 hour job for them sound right ? With cost of parts and installation nearing $1000 it's looking like the slight drop just isn't worth it for me.

"Installation of g3 CAI - $150"
-No problem.

"Installation of Oil Cooler - about $300
Required oil change using Motul synthetic motor oil and a Nissan oil filter our oil changes - $115."

-Thought since front bumper and CAI going in, that the price wouldn’t be too bad for the Oil Cooler. Also let them know the kit is second-hand and already assembled. I asked them about that and they changed to $200

" z1 clutch & flywheel / csc delete kit / RJM CMC Installation: $750 including clutch flush "

"UpRev pro tune w/ ARC: $700"

-I have since acquired Synolimit's ported kit and will have it put in at the same time the G3 CAI goes in. With being in there already for the CAI, would an hour labor rate be fair for this ?

Anyway guys, this is where I'm at right now. This season has been a real learning experience and I have been spending a lot of time on this forum. Can't think everyone who contributes here enough. If anyone is able to chime in here on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I can't offer much perspective on their quoted prices, but I can tell you if you want to make a trip down to the Philly area, I could certainly help you do the intakes, syno kit, and rotors for 1 six pack of decent beer and a pizza.

Their price for the uprev tune seems reasonable, especially compared to what I was quoted from a local shop (over 1k).

Haha Dude.. That's a sweet deal there buddy. You are the man. I'm into from Northern Europe imported beers, nothing but clean high quality brew around me.

Would most likely be willing to take that trip if you are certain about it. If so, in a private message, send your number n let me know where in Philly you are so I can get a good estimate of travel time.

The rate is the standard for the NYC area and their hours are pretty much on average.
I used them many times, they know what they are doing and don't overcharge from my experience for the work required.

I had them install my Z Speed stage 2 clutch, lightweight flywheel, CMAK CSC replacement, and a new CMC last year. I think I paid about $800, all-in. Great shop.

Yes, I've yet to hear any negative feedback on this shop, but the spacer price has me wondering since the "370z H&R spacer & extended stud install" on youtube states that once caliper and rotor are off ( 30 min ? ) , it should take 15 minutes to get the studs in.

I also read feedback in the spacer thread about extended stud spacer install to be about half hour for each wheel, for those who know what they are doing, so I'm wondering if a 2.5 - 3 hour labor rate is fair.

I honestly don't have a clue. Have you questioned them on it?

I first questioned them as to why 3 hours for the Oil Cooler since bumper is already coming off for intakes and kit is already attached. They said 2 hours and that is the best they are going to be able to do on everything, So I didn't even bother questioning them on the spacers.

Oh Well, When me and JL get the job done we'll see how it goes.

Outside of the clutch stuff, tune, and perhaps the springs - everything is pretty DIY friendly. =) I find working on my Z to be therapeutic... I think you will enjoy meeting with another forum member to knock this stuff out.

This ended up being a lot of fun. Mike (Socce) and I tackled several of the projects on the list this past Saturday, starting around 11 am and working till around 11 pm. Our biggest handicaps were:

1) Some jerkoff sold him a used Stillen Gen3 intake for a G37 instead of for a 370z. For anyone not familiar, the G37 has shorter intake piping and slightly different shape - it's not possible to fit it onto a 370z without some serious alteration, it's just way too short. We wasted quite a bit of time figuring this out. I spent close to an hour thinking I was just an idiot and there was something else we must have to remove/modify to get it to fit, finally concluding it must be for a different vehicle. We ended up having to put the stock intake back in place. The good news - my wife and I ended up buying the intake since she has a G37x and Mike had done a stellar job wrapping it (went on her car in no time at all).

2) The oil cooler kit was just flat out missing hardware. A quick trip to Lowe's fixed most of this, and we ended up running it in place but leaving it disconnected until Mike gets a few replacement gaskets. This was the Z1 kit, and the quality of it and fitment were great! We had no real issues other than the missing pieces, but this cost us serious time.

General part feedback:
-Synolimit's kit (ported TB's, upper, and lower mani) was a cakewalk to install, and really nicely done. I'll be very interested to see the dyno numbers Mike gets with this setup.
-As stated above, Z1 oil cooler was pretty easy to install, even considering I've never tackled this before.
-Z1's sprinkle slotted rotors looked great. Mike can probably comment on them better than I could. We ended up only installing the front 2 before it was time to pack things up. Does anyone have any feedback in how to get rotors off more easily than beating the crap out of them with a rubber mallet until they finally release?

Use a bigger, heavier, metal hammer. Not like you'll be using the old rotors anyway.

Yeah, as previously said, It hurt wasting time having to figure out we were working with a g37 intake. Seller claims had no idea and that this very shop was who put them in for him and didn't say anything about any alterations or anything. I did notice when I purchased them that the filters were not the typical red ones. Hmm...

Initial ride : Syno’s kit ran perfectly on the ride home - no code troubles. I do believe I could feel more torque in the mid/high end. This was also with the new z1 rotors installed in the front. Brake feel felt similar to what it was.

Yesterday I got the H&R spacers 20 f / 20 r , z1 rear rotors, and fatboy knob installed. Felt good on the short ride home. AAM intakes and tune next. Pics and Dyno coming soon.

As for Josh, he is an awesome guy and a real deal Z enthusiast. He knows the Z in and out and I'm really fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him. As someone with little experience under the hood, Josh was an excellent example and teacher. I gained a lot of experience and confidence from our time working on the car. Would be awesome to work on the car with him again some day.

Feels wrong to damage rotors with less than 9k miles on them, but I'll keep this in mind for future projects. Thanks Cano.

Thanks for the kind words from you Mike! Pics of us victorious, and Mike with his super clean 40th AE, less than 9k miles on the odo! Note the front rotors (and my sweet wood block setup to get it off the ground)
