I've come to the conclusion on this thing that there is no issue. Simply hold the button for more than a split second (1 and a half seconds to be exact) and it opens every time.

RTFM!

Been there, done that, still failed.

Nissan just did not install a heavy duty spring to hold the weight of the spoiler for the U.S. bound cars. Same thing happened with the early Z33's. My new springs have been on for months and never an issue any more and no squeaks.

Kenchan,

Thanks for the "Rear Hatch Opening Fix HOW-TO ". I tried it with Swedish currency (2 coins/spring) on the short replacement springs (US TSB parts number) and so far it works great. Now I just need to check for squeaks/rattling and perhaps also add a coin later, if neccesary.

I have to call BS on you here, and take offense to you RTFM'ing me.
Giving you the benefit of the doubt, I went out to my car yesterday morning, pressed and held the button while counting to five. Fail.
Had to press the button a second time to release the hatch completely. This is typically how it works on my 2009.

LOL. It took me longer to read that than it took me to put in the "penny fix". I added the pennies on 8/31/09 and have not had a single failure since, absolutely NONE.

Default Hatch open all the way?

Is the hatch supposed to open all the way or just pop up a little so you can lift it up?
Thanksn

Just pops, does not raise. The hatch "springs" are designed to push the hatch up just far enough to clear the latch. Your trusty arms are designed to raise it the rest of the way.

Since there is a gazillion pages in this thread, I didn't search every page, but I found something on my car that might be part of the issue on some of your cars. I had my springs replaced which helped drastically, but recently I noticed one of the hatch bumpers (in picture) was missing. I just replaced the missing one tonight and it helps the hatch pop loose even more quickly.

I may be the only one with this issue, but just in case...

I took your advice, and I haven't had this issue return.

I could hold the button until my finger went numb. It still wouldn't open without hitting the button at least once more. Sometimes three or four times.

Each press of the button cycles the latch in my car. Holding the button does not create a constant open circuit. Maybe they have a different relay in their cars which allows them hold a constant open latch.

mine only gets stuck in the winter time.

the gas in the shock doesn't push the hatch up as much (cold), and the spring isn't strong enough to pop it up by itself without the help of the shock.

To those who use the penny trick: do you experience any squeeking noise from the hatch? I had my springs replace back in April, and I get a constant squeek from the hatch area with any minor bump in the road. I think it's because the hatch doesn't fully close down tight like it did with the OEM springs. The hatch opened flawlessly for about a month, but I now have probably about a 50/50 opening rate. So I was thinking of going back to the OEM springs and using the pennies if it'll stop the squeeking.
