TSB for 370Z stuck hatch came out today

Went to the dealer for maintain service and was told that Nissan just came out an TSB the sticky hatch problem.
The dealer is ordering a new set of springs for me at no charge.

My dealer called today and informed me of the TSB and that my parts were ordered.

theDreamer 01-27-2010 02:07 PM

I might stop by a dealership, can I go to any dealership (the one I bought my Z from is 45 minutes away)?

wishihadnav 01-27-2010 02:10 PM

nice to know theres a TSB on this..my local stealorship is tring to charge me.

coaster 01-27-2010 02:47 PM

I just got back from having my car serviced and talked to them about the issue. At first, the tech told me he could not reproduce the problem. So when I got my car back, I talked briefly with the Service Consultant, and he told me that there was a TSB available and that I will have the replacement parts next week. Woohoo. Let me see if I can get the TSB from him. Maybe there is some hope for this issue!

I had mine done at a different dealer.

Sounds good, never really have had to deal with service departments, so hoping this is something I can just walk in on them, ask about it and leave after they order it.

vipor 01-27-2010 02:50 PM

Yep, just don't back down. Now that the TSB is out (so it seems) it should be easy.

coaster 01-27-2010 06:22 PM

Hey guys, I just asked my service consultant to fax over the TSB. The Classification number is BT10-004 and the Reference number is NTB10-014. AS stated before, the part number is 84415-1EA1E. Hope that helps.

antman22 01-27-2010 06:30 PM

So, if we take all that info to the svc dept, they should be able to order the parts and let us go on our merry way?

That should be the case. One note though. On the TSB, it states that the applied dates are for "Vehicles built before Obtober 6, 2009". Just a heads up.

ya know guys, the penny trick is a 2 minute fix...

But the penny trick can still fail, this is an official fix from Nissan and only takes a bit of time in the end. I really do not have time to mess with it, but I stopped by tonight to talk to Nissan dealership and all the techs were gone. They filled out all the paperwork and have the last two springs in stock with a reserve tag with my name on them for 8AM tomorrow. Drop my car off and they said tops of one hour to fix it.

The 2 Penny trick works fine for me, when the weather is warmer outside. But.. on the cold nights, it still fails :-(. Oh wells, I should have new springs next week. Good luck guys!

Does anyone have the actual TSB #
I called my dealer last week and he said there is nothing he is aware of for this issue, said he checked with Nissan tech line

They will inspect your car, then order the parts (if they aren't in stock.) Once the parts come in, the dealership will HAVE to install them for you. It's the only way the shop gets paid for warranty work. Even though it's super fast and easy, go ahead and prepare for an hour or two, and get a free car wash out of the deal.

I always stress that they hand wash my car, and have been told by most dealers that they only wash cars by hand. I also inspect my wheels, because if my car gets put on a rack, it'll be obvious.

theDreamer 01-28-2010 08:52 AM

Dropped my car off this morning, they said it will be a minimum of one hour so I just went to my office. No need to sit around there waiting bored out of my mind, but yes the dealership has to do this and yes it does only take five minutes.

If I can remember I will try to get a copy of the TSB from the guy there I spoke with and scan it in for you guys, no promises though.

StillenZ 01-28-2010 09:38 AM

Called my dealer this morning and gave them the information on the TSB... they told me that the parts are now on order and I should get them soon! Hopefully won't have to wait an hour for a 5 minute job though.

370zproject 01-28-2010 11:37 AM

i have to get someone with a lap top to take this thread to nissan and show em that it is a problem... they claim they cannot get online and look and that nothing is posted wrong on their site

vipor 01-28-2010 11:40 AM

I'd be very concerned on how clean their wash mits are. Personally, I wouldn't let anybody wash my car but myself. In a crunch, I would use touchless car wash only.

theDreamer 01-28-2010 12:29 PM

Ok, back and I got stuff.

What the springs look like, they are different than yours Vipor:

theDreamer 01-28-2010 12:44 PM

First couple of tests, it definitely had more "pop" to it and opened with ease. Lets hope these new springs work and no more issue. :D

vipor 01-28-2010 12:45 PM

i haven't had mine fail once. i'm sure you'll experience the same

No clue how I know that, but CS is a valid answer probably. I have a bunch of random things like that from CS that I see on forums and am like..."How do I know what he is saying???"

vipor 01-28-2010 03:12 PM

hahahah nerd!

Matt 01-28-2010 03:42 PM

Oddly enough, I've had my car for almost 3 months and until 2 days ago, I never had a stuck hatch.

However, the last 4-5 times I've opened the hatch, it's required the second push on the button. Argh.

Only happens to me when it's cold. Imma do the 2-penny thing when I next drive the Z, which might not be for a week judging from the below-zero F we are about to go through tomorrow :shakes head:
