Default Sigh, almost had a 370Z yesterday..

Dealership had a blue 370Z 6-speed with every single option on it.. totaling over 41k..

I know for sure I want the Sport, Touring and Navigation.. I could probably live without door sills, whatever else they offer as I'm sure we can all find these "at cost" on the web somewhere.. so whatever, the dealer of course really wanted to sell the car to me and only dropped the price to 38.8k.. To compensate they went higher on my trade in (scion tC) but I still felt like the deal wasn't good enough at this time.

They let me "borrow" the car for a day - although I only drove it home and parked it and showed the GF and my mom happened to stop by and hated it lol. GF was indifferent.. She feels it's a bad purchase all-around.. (We just bought a house, and with the way the job market is right now and mass lay-offs and whatnots).. All valid points I guess.

Anyways, the 370Z is an AMAZING and a well-rounded vehicle.. So much fun to drive and out handles anything i've driven in this price range.

Anybody have any help or thoughts? 38.8k for every option seemed kind of steep still.. I really like the navigation unit with all the integrated on-screen utility it offered and I know that only drives the price up just under $2000.. sigh.

2010 models will be coming out Sept./Oct timeframe I imagine, would I be able to score a better deal if I snag a 2009 around then?

Thanks for reading,

A very frusterated Jay

Invoice for all options is about 37,288USD, the dealer I am working with is doing the same thing. He will not go below 600 over invoice, but will give me 600 more for my trade in. I just verified yesterday and everyone else is offering the same price as him, minus the 600.

Not sure when the 2010 will come out, the 09 NISMO & Roadster were just announced and will be for sale this summer, Nissan may wait until later in the year to launch a new car because I am sure they want to keep the light on the Roaders, and NISMOs for those who want them.

I would go back and say, I can get invoice else where, and see what they do. My sales guy was like, ok, but then he started to come up on the price of my trade in very quickly. He keeps the price of the car up, so he looks better, and passes it onto the used sales guy then.

Yeah when I got back to the dealership with the car after having it for a few hours, and I told them I've decided against buying it for now, the general manager comes walking out with a handshake and smile and pulls me into his offers and then offers me $2000 more on my car trade-in. That puts the bottom line at a better deal for sure. Almost too hard to pass up, ya know?

The dealer told me they were making $800 over invoice on this deal, so sounds like they actually might have been honest about that.

The car already had 200+ miles on it when I drove it and the stick would shake/vibrate at idle (is this normal?).. and gently taking off in 1st gear felt a little rough.. Combination of the car feeling like it was romped on a lot (hell, even I got it close to red line a few times on the test drive) kind of turned me off with this specific car. I probably would have pulled the trigger in a heart beat had they had a 370Z in the back with the plastic all over the car still for the same price.

Stick shaking at idle is normal. When you are slowing down in 1st gear and if you just press the clutch in, there can be a bit of a clunkiness about it - also normal.

Nissan sells them the car for 3% less than invoice or so, so no matter what even if they sell at invoice, they profit. If you want it and want it now, its easy - tell them $500 above invoice, no more, no less. Done.

The stick vibrating at idle as well as the rough first gear launches are normal.

This made me laugh. Abusing a car on a test drive, but only wanting to buy the zero-mile 'virgin'.

I don't see anything wrong with me wanting to buy a near-0 mile car and not the one I just beat on.

I think all dealers need to have "demo" cars that they don't sell and are only used for test driving like some dealerships i've been to.

Why would I even consider buying a car I can't test (just make sure the one I test drive isn't the one I want to buy).. Duh.

jaja yea i know what you are talking about thats why ill never buy a dealer car unless it has less than 10 miles ill prefer 0....and you are right we have to test it before we buy it.

If money is the issue, you should really re-evalute what you really need at the moment.
As you said, you recently purchased a house and the economy ain't gonna help!
I hope you know that sports cars don't come cheap.
Your going to change tires every now and then.
And I don't care how rich someone on this forum is but I know everyone will agree with me it will rape our wallets. lol...
Think about your family first!
This is coming from a 19 year old!

What the hell? Dealers let you borrow cars for a day? What country are you from? That sure as hell has never happened here in Cali! Not that I know of!

Yes, they do. They do this for what they call the "puppy dog" effect - you bring it home and get comfortable with it, and in essence, want to keep it. They only do this for people they strongly think will buy the car, generally.

I would recommend looking at the G37, basically the same car under the skin, just designed for more space, comfort.
