Why does it still have duals? I thought it was going to be a single straight through exhaust after the Y pipe.

Awesome is sound Z34

With how much they charge us for exhausts, they should at least stop using an online language translater haha.

mmmm dual mode exhaust...that'll cost an arm and a leg, but i'd definitely consider it. sounds amazing in race mode, and silent is enough that i can run without fear of the cops XD

curiosity - are there any other companies that are known to be prototyping a CBE with muffler bypass other than power craft?

edit: this isn't electronically controlled btw silent and race mode, is it? i'm starting to confuse myself..am i just thrown off by the video, and race/silent are two diff. exhausts, like amuse?

From the video, it looks like there's a valve on the left side muffler tip... it probably explains the interesting geometry, the weird bulge in the piping from the cats, and the fact it's missing a muffler body. So there's probably a switch somewhere installed in the car. In other words, it's all just one exhaust system.

That sounds about right. Top Secret designed a system similar to this for the R35. Here are a few pics of the system at our office (pardon the mess) .

Yeah, definitely, that Y pipe would divert into the resonator for a "silent" system. Once that valve opened up, the vast majority of sound would really just come from the side without a resonator. Also, probably a simple solenoid controlled valve is what it seems... especially if it's electronic.

The only questions I have toward dual-mode exhausts is that:
  1. More moving parts usually aren't a good thing.
  2. Increased backpressure from a closed valve, although it's silent and meant for "grandma" driving, it still doesn't look too good.
  3. All the sound just comes from one muffler end, really. Not too much of a bother but a balanced sound is better to me.
  4. No symmetry under the car... "hey why doesn't that left side have a block in it"
I'm just whining really but I saw the Sacalm exhaust and like the other people that saw it, I kinda went "wtf" at the sealed center piping and the interestingly shaped resonator ends. And what is that thing, a heat shield?

Once I pick up a Z, I will definitely be putting a dual mode exhaust on it. My dad has it on his C6 Vette, and it's the greatest thing ever. Of course, if this thing in $4000+, I'll keep my eye out for its lower-priced competition

Well, the Power Craft Z33 exhaust which isn't a dual mode costs 230,000 Yen or about US$2,500. The Z34 dual mode is gonna be a fortune.
