I cross-shopped the BRZ, S2000 and Cayman. I drove the BRZ about 4 times trying to make up my mind. All cars have pluses and minues. The BRZ is slow as ****. Slower than you think. It's rediculous how slow it is. That said, I had every intention to supercharge it day 1. Watch a youtube video of the Litchfield BRZ and it's f*cking sick. I also wanted to track whatever car I bought. This is where I decided aginst the BRZ. If you dig into the forums, and read up on the track guys, the BRZ is a big piece of ****. The core problem is the engine suffers from an bad direct injection design which causes detination and causes the engine to gernade. MOST of the track guys I saw stopped racing it out of fear. This can apparently be fixed with a good tune, but it seems like a bad issue that would cause undo worry. A 200hp $24,000 car is not worth that level of worry. If I wanted to worry about my POS car blowing up, I would have bought a Cayman. Also, to replace the injectors requires massive amount of labor. And even supercharged, the BRZ isn't fast. A supercharged BRZ is slower than a S2000 or 370Z. The BRZ handles good, it's lower to the ground and more gokart like. I dig it. It needs 240-280hp from the factory to be a good car. |
