Default First off.....

I'm all for someone going and buying whatever it is 'that floats your boat', but IMHO the FRS/BRZ or whatever they're called, are simply pedestrian looking at best next to a Z. I guess some people must like them, (or can't afford a Z or want better gas mileage, or need pretend rear seats) but compared to a Z they are just plain, plain, plain.
I'm with some of the others here. You see them everywhere where I live, but I can go for days without seeing a 350 or 370, and I'm LOOKING for Zs everywhere I go.

Makes little schnitt to me personally of the brz or FRS wins or losew times on a track etc. Like mentioned earlier its what makes you smile and happy when you drive it.

I kid you not, I drove my brothers hairdressers of a car MX5 once and it put a smile on my face.

For me it's not all just about the numbers. If it were, then I would have been in a Five.0 pony and not the Z.

LOL! 370z has been tested multiple times and comes out with better lateral acceleration and g's and also does better in figure eight testing. Also salom and skidpad numbers are higher. Not to mention the 370z is way faster than both of those cars. Even if they mod up the frs/brz with some sways, coils/springs, lighter rims, and better tires the 370z with better sways, wider tires, lighter rims, and springs will end up outperforming those cars on the track.

Default Let me start by saying I'm a hater

I have HATED the FRZ since the day it came out because to me it's really bandwagony to me. It's the RWD Civic of our day.
I drove a modded FRZ (coilovers, wheels, tires, exhaust, maybe other stuff too) for 2 days and it's SOOOOOOOOO SLOW... It FEELS nippy in 1st and 2nd, but after that... HOLY MOTHER OF GOD... I'd be on the freeway and I'd try to lane weave but the FRZ is too slow to do it, I'd mash the pedal and acceleration just didn't come... It was painful.
72... 73......... 74...................... 75........................... 76................
My dad's Maxima is 10 times faster.

As for handling... Any car handles well when you can only go 30MPH, LOOOOL!!! Handling wise my 370Z has lightweight rotors, front Hotchkis sway only, and 275/305 RS3s and I think my car handles 100000 times better than the FRZ that I had that had pretty meaty Nittos and at least coils...

The track guys I know tell me that once they get to speed they can keep it at speed but the really fast FRZ guys are driving at 11 (out of 10) so if ANYTHING happens, tires are 1 degree too hot, too cold, hit a pebble, whatever... They're off the track, where with a 370 there is margin for error.

Nothing that really makes me hate the FRS/BRZ, but nothing that floats my boat, would not buy. Again, different cars, for different tastes for different people....

Now, these cars being in eeeevery single car maganize, now that really pisses me off. So your telling me there are no other interesting builts being done that couldnt make the cover of your crappy magazine...? Come on, now!

I did a demo drive in one back when I was looking for a RWD sports coupe. Here are my impressions:

1. Handling is good (but really not better than my 370 nismo IMO).
2. Interior is cheap. Actually, everything about the car is cheap.
3. It has back seats. Screw that.
4. Power is... well, there's no nice way to say it. It's laughably slow.
5. Everything is an option. So by the time you get one kitted out half decently you're into $30k for an economy car with sports car pretentions.
6. The association. FR-S fanboys are the worst part about owning that car. The reason they keep comparing it to the 370 is they feel the need to justify their purchase in the face of a superior but more expensive option. Kinda reminds me of some Z fanboys ripping the Porsche Cayman, actually.

Buy what you like best and can afford. But don't trash the superior car just because you don't/can't have it.

Personally I say go your own way. If it's affordable & to your liking get what you want & don't bother with others thoughts. If you enjoy it, enjoy it & don't let some Web Racer who's probably still in high school say you shouldn't. Everyone will have different ideas of what looks good/works good. If it puts a smile on your face when you drive it, then it works for you.

buy whichever car you like and go from there. At the end of the day, it's your personal satisfaction that matters.

Personally, the brz and 370 are apples and oranges. If forced to select I would get the Z for being more muscular and grown up. Honestly, I would not mind owning a used brz just for short trips around the city. But for long and fun trips, I would use the Z.

As for backseats, let's not forget that the Porsche 911 has backseats since its inception. You just have to cut off your teenagers' legs to use them. 😜😜😜

The BRZ scores a lot of points in my book for showing car makers that there is a market for lightweight rwd cars again. The car itself isn't all that impressive, but it's a good starter sports car. The BRZ is either a hardtop Miata or rwd Civic Si. In a few years when you can pick up a decent one for under $15k, it would make an entertaining little daily driver. Good on gas, handles well, and you can drive the **** out of it without hitting "take me to jail" speeds. Sometimes it's fun to drive a slow car fast.

As others have mentioned, it's an apples to oranges comparison. Not saying one fruit is better than the other but they are totally different cars so pick one that fits your budget and tastes.

I assisted my son in buying an FRS 6 months ago. A 13 with under 4K miles for $22k otd, a good bargain for a 22 year old engineer. I've also had the opportunity to drive it a lot so here are my impressions.

The Z has the nicer interior overall but the FRS has better seats if you're slim like my son & I, larger than a 34" waist would probably suck.

The FRS cannot seat 4, no way in hell. I'm only 5' 7" and in normal driving position, no one can fit behind me, not even a kid. At best it's a 3 seater. You'd have to move the passenger seat all the way forward and then you can fit someone less than 5' 6" behind there and both people on that side will be cramp.

Speed, no comparison as we are comparing a 6 vs 4. Handling, depends on what you want. The Z is on rails and takes some speed to bust loose, while the FRS can be playful at lower speeds and is controllable so I can understand why people who autocross, enjoy this car.

Ride, the Z is the better ride as it 's firm yet very smooth on tiny road imperfections and not harsh on larger road imperfections at all. In the FRS, you feel everything all the time and it's not quiet either, this would get very tiresome after awhile for this old guy. However the Z likes to tramline vs the FRS.

The FRS is a great starter sports car, but in time it would get old for most, as the natural desire for more speed would take over. So the progression for most would be FRS to Z and no way having experienced both, would I ever go Z to FRS.

Here's one way of looking at it, in Continental Challenge/Grand Am; the Z is a GS class car, the FRS would be an ST class car. In GS, they run Porsche 911, M3, 370z, etc. In ST, they run civics, Miatas, Mazda3, etc.

The info above is a fact, not something I heard from a friend who knew someone who knew someone, etc.

As said by at least one of the members earlier, the two cars should not be compared.

If I ever get rid of my Z is to buy a Porsche 911 S, not a Honda Civic with 10 turbos running 100 lbs of boost
