The prox range from either door handle or the hatch is roughly 21 inches. The range of the remote itself is probably 50ft or more. If you want to increse the range a little bit just put the fob under your chin while using it. It sounds like an old wives tale, but it works, been doing it for years when working on cars.

Yup, that is true. I've been doing this for years too. Customers would be looking at me weird, but when you have 200 cars on the front line, and you're trying to see where one is, it definitely helps...

With my Subaru Baja, if you hold the remote under your chin you get increased range for operating the remote. Havn't tried it yet with the Z , but theoretically with you acting as an antenna, it should work for the Z fob also.

I did have a line of sight to the car as I was on an upper floor at work looking over the parking lot. No way my fob would work from that far without the chin trick. ![]() This will come in handy on hot days to get the windows rolled down and the interior cooling for a few minutes while I make the hike out to my car. ![]()

The i-key was meant to stay in ones pocket or purse. IMO, it just makes more sense to push the button on the door since you already have to put your hand on the handle to open it.
Also keep in mind the more often the i-key buttons are used, the faster the battery inside runs down. |
