I use to live in Arkansas. There, the motto was "If it aint wearin a Bow-Tie, it ain't worth a ****" That attitude, coupled with a some first-hand examples of "superior GM quality" led to my older brother and I having such a low opinion of GM in general, though I can honestly admit that they have made some vehicles that have withstood the test of time. Japanese vehicles there were virtually unheard of, with the exception of the occasional Corolla or Accord, usually owned by new arrivals.

The Z is the hands down looker. But up until you really drive a 3.8, especially the two top models, GT and Ultimate, it really is quite the package. No, it doesn't have quite the performance of the Z, I wondered if I'd miss that selling my 370 for the 3.8. I don't. It has 95% of the performance (I'd argue mid range the 3.8 would put a hurting on a 6 speed though), for the same price I got my base 2013 with sport, I got a 3.8 decked out in all the tech, leather and goodies you could want for slightly less than I paid for the Z. It's a fantastic Touring/commute car. I do miss the Z a little. Mostly the looks but the fit and finish inside is IMO above Nissans. They've come A LONG way in a short time and will only get better.

to me it's a Hyundai... after i sold my acura i was looking at a 3.8 and i went and test drove, my friend worked at the dealership and gave me hell of a deal. still i couldn't manage to buy it. the rear looks nice but the front is hideous, at least to me. the fake hood scoops too. to me the high tech package doesnt matter, i have a acura tsx fully loaded but i still use my phone for navi, go figure lol.

watson853 08-22-2014 11:58 AM

Fake hood vents really bug the crap outa me. I can't stand when car company's waste time and money this way.

I agree. The Gen Coupe isn't a bad car, but it's at least on the radar now. It's a choice worth looking into whereas 10 years ago, no way in hell would most of us trade in a Z for a Tiburon. I honestly think Hyundai is still seeing what works and what doesn't in the design language. Not a fan of the front of the Gen Coupe, but I do like what they did with the Santa-Fe, Genesis Sedan and Sonata.

My parents follow the same motto, honestly chevy motors never have let them or even me down. Chevy electrics are the worst built/designed I feel in the entire industry.

Rusty 08-22-2014 04:46 PM

What I read on the Gen Coupe is that it will be dead in 2 years. And in 2 years, it will have a replacement.

watson853 08-22-2014 04:49 PM

I read that as well. Hyundai is supposedly considering to replace it with a sport sedan M3 fighter.

Ain't that the truth...bolted on "scoops" on mustangs are the most ridiculous things I've ever seen...mine had a fully functional Cervini's hood on it when I trade up to the Z...

M3 fighter? Nice? Link?

watson853 08-22-2014 07:35 PM

I stand corrected not M3 but 3 series competitor. Here's the link.

Could a New RWD Sedan Replace the Hyundai Genesis Coupe?

That?? Nooooo. They showed a long wheelbase a couple days ago as a mule car. I'm hoping, it's not a legit project. More engine config/drivetrain.

Anyone not interested in a hybrid sports car might wanna start watching Mazda.

Yea....I know. Only thing "new" in this "article" was a firm number, 408. Sounds fishy.

I agree, I'm pretty much not going to believe anything until it's confirmed by Nissan.

Well agreed but... just because you have inside information does not make one a writer. :ughdance:

408 just sound right for a "modern" factory 3.0L turbo and in IMO what the platform needs to compete in the horsepower wars. (It is also about what the 3.0L TT 2015 Porsche Panamera S has). With the weight savings and up 58 HP from the Nizmo you would have quite the beast.

FPenvy 08-26-2014 12:34 PM

originally when all the talk about nissan ditching the V6 for a 4 banger i wrote off ever getting another Z.

now with the rumors of a turbo V6 and possible targa top my interest has peaked more than i could have imagined. if nissan comes through with a 400hp turbo 6cyl and a targa top i will be first in line lol

the big ticket would still be the turbo engine. look at all the 370's that go boost and have nothing but trouble. NA motors just arent meant to be boosted sometimes lol now you take a turbo stock engine and you can play :)

Z_ealot 08-26-2014 09:35 PM

this has more to do with the iDX, but it does mention a tidbit about the iDX being built on the next gen Z chassis which is extremely good news for the weight part of the equation since they have said the iDX is going to be under 2700lbs or somewhere close....... NoLaKrewe 08-26-2014 09:51 PM

No matter what a smart man should have 3 to 4 years to wait before purchasing the new Z. We still don't know when it's going to come out and even once it does only a fool would buy it in the first 2 years of being out. Way I see it, a 50th year sounds just right

All I had to read was "nothing yet for now is not officially confirmed"

there isn't a "safe" car out there once you take it over a certain speed. Once you hit triple digit speeds, every car is pretty much a driving coffin.

Volk Z 08-27-2014 02:36 PM

I assume the 4 cylinder turbo option will happen and a naturally aspirated v6 will be the premium.

The other thing is develop your own engine Nissan please don't put an engine from an unreliable car maker. It is the heart ad soul of the car.... i can hear it now..so you drive a Nissan with Benz motor.

How about we put a little money forward like you did on the gtr which was a huge risk and create either a beastly 4 cylinder turbo motor or in line 6 turbo motor and make all Z owners happy to buy one.

This is my vent to Nissan if they are listening... lol

the V6 will be boosted by reports and rumors so far. but yes still from benz.

i agree on them building their own.

Only light speed?

Dark Helmet: Yes, we're gonna have to go right to ludicrous speed.
