Forgive me, but what is that? A differential gear or something?

kenchan 02-07-2015 09:14 AM

turned the wheels by hand, checked psi, checked for rodent feasting.

no issue :D

Staring at her 'cause she's so filthy. It's been snowing on and off here so there's no point in cleaning her yet.

makes me a sad panda

So what did I do with my Z today? With sadness (really), I sold it today and purchased a BMW 335i. I'm really going to miss my Z (truthfully, it's the best car I've purchased in over 40 years of driving), but times change and I need something a bit larger.

I'll keep dropping in here from time-to-time, especially as the next generation Z starts to really take shape. Drive safe! :hello:

its an LSD.

dropped the pumpkin the other night, it's at a rear end shop getting the wavetrac, new bearings/seals, nismo cover installed :). the diff is surprisingly VERY easy to remove once you get to it...have to remove the rear braces, rear sway, and exhaust. the center driveshaft is a simple 6 bolts that you can easily reach by spinning one of the rear wheels. same goes for the axles!

I just installed the motordyne art pipes.. does anyone know if the sound improves as it breaks in or that little rasp will stay.

Masterbeatty 02-14-2015 11:33 AM

Drove the Z to V day dinner in 6 degrees last night, it was the first time she moved in a few weeks. Oh do I miss driving it more than 1-2 days a month.

Pintsize725 02-14-2015 12:33 PM

The 350 got new shoes today.

You should get that finger looked at, it does not look healthy.

Cold ... gettin' down to 3 degrees tonight. This is 4WD truck weather. So ... I let the Z stay home in the garage.

chops 02-17-2015 08:20 PM

diff is all buttoned back up and found an exhaust leak on the ark's resonators that are above the main muffler. had it welded back at a local shop so it delayed me from starting the car up. first impressions of the new diff...feels a little weird on hard corners, its alot more controlled than before! i hit a corner with a slight uphill/dip where i can usually get some slight rear lifting, and it performed beautifully. once the right wheel hit the ground i heard some tire squeal. eat my traction, quaife!

Please share your diff's specs/brand, etc.

wavetrac! its an ATB type diff. similar to a quaife, except the wavetrac has an improved design which allows the car to still have traction where the quaife becomes an open diff - when a single wheel is in the air, and on deceleration. it used to be that nissan/nismo was the only distributor, but vividracing is an authorized disti as well. hit em up if you're interested. i think im the first one to put one into the 370 :icon14:

ZeNato 02-18-2015 01:00 AM

Received a whole mess of new parts in the mail I need to make time to install before spring. Motordyne manifold, Whiteline Diff Bushings, Stillen Headers... so much work! lol

mishuko 02-18-2015 07:14 AM

planning out my service routine up until july... the problem is when i should book with my tire shop to get new rubber...

i plan on getting a big overhaul done in july before my road trip. flush the fluids and get new pads (should be aprox 30,000 km by then) and then enjoy a long fun drive to the east coast. then i'll need another oil change when i get back :excited:

The Project 370Z car had one. Of course, that was a Nissan vehicle. Perhaps you are talking about individual owner (vs race team or a sponsor)?

Either way, all of my research has indicated that this is the one to get when I upgrade the VLSD. Good info here

jpkirk 02-18-2015 09:29 AM

I blew a spec of dust off the Z this morning as I got into the wifes Altima to carpool to work. Every time I go in the garage it's like ... March can't come soon enough. The way things are going here on the East coast, it may be April before the Z is in daylight again.

diff bushing is at least 5 hours. headers, another 5 hours, and the manifold...probably an hour or two. that is ALOT of work :rofl2:

haha yes, that! all you need is another driver side stub axle, part number ends in JK01B. oh and some new bearings/seals. i had my entire diff rebuilt since i was in there, minus new gears. didnt have money left over or else i wouldve upgraded to 3.9's :owned:

New brake pads installed first thing this AM ✔
After getting it home I did the tranny and diff fluid✔ I'm trying Motul this time around.

It was a bitch jacking up this car. She did not like rear entry to get to her pumpkin but loved it sideways.
