It has arrived!!!!!°°°°

axmea? 03-16-2017 02:31 AM

Took forever to find someone who'd do it. My vinyl plates arrived. Hopefully CHP and PD won't make anymore U-eys and ask me why. Soooo legal and purely preventive. Figuring out where to put the darn thing.

use multiple cans and keep the can warm. otherwise can gets cold, pressure drops and paint starts pitting from the nozzle.

u can get factory match mixed paint from paintscratch and paintworld. both reliable. GL

You're MUCH better off getting rattle cans from an automotive paint/body shop supply store. The paint is better and so are the nozzles. They have a wider more even spray pattern that will be especially helpful if you're just learning how. Hardware store stuff just shoots the paint out, its garbage.

A proper store can also hook you up with a primer that has an ahesion promoter if necessary as well as a flex agent - the latter being more important. You can just tell them what you are spraying and they will get you the rifpght stuff.

Plus you can get the actual paint code instead of whatever generic black you have to choose from on the shelf.

Best part is it's usually the same or less money to buy the better stuff. No excuse for crud.

Dang really, i was thinking that it would've been way more costly. I'll try getting magnetic black for the lip then. Idea on how many cans for one lip?

One can should do it for two light coats and one wet one. Then one can of clear if going base/clear. Otherwise you could get single stage like acrylic enamel and be done with it once you've sprayed the color coats.

Remember these cans spray a nice even mist cost, and don't try to cover everything and finish it in one coat. Everybody has that tendency when they have sprayed before. You'll just make a mess, waste paint and most likely have to redo it.

Either way you will have a MUCH easier time learning with a proper spray can instead of Home Depot junk. It might not be the worst idea in the world to buy a second color can and practice your stroke on some cardboard or something. The lip will be easy to do once you get the motion down.

ChaseZ 03-16-2017 10:33 PM

It's only a lot more costly if you are buying all the base, reducer, hardener, driers etc etc for a gun setup. Then you are buying so much it's going to be a lot no matter what you are painting. The spray cans they mix up for you on site to your paint code shouldn't be any more than the "better" spray cans at places like Home Depot. And there is no comparison

As kenchan said paintscratch has real good products, I used their stuff to paint my door handles. You might want to check out my DIY here

This is what i picked up. The guy told me i wouldn't need an adhesion promoter, since the lip was new and bare. Am i ok with these or should i go ahead and get an adhesion promoter? I plan on starting next weekend.

You're probably fine without the adhesion promoter. I've both used and not used it and never saw a difference myself. You can always do a little scratch test once the primer is on and let that be the barometer.

kenchan 03-17-2017 06:15 PM

370zaya- dat really sucks, sorry to see.

Wtf does new have to do with it? I'd use adhesion promoter. GL!

Yea I'll toss a dab or two on. It's still sleeping so it should be cured by time spring comes around.

2days later will have to prep to sleep again at this rate. Had more snow today

Edit stupid pictures have to always upload backwards lol

u need to make a finisher for it or a new boot. i made my own for my TWM a while back using a ballcock shank washer. u sand it down until it's low profile. some guy with a 350Z made one too... i thought he copied me to make his flashy DIY.... but might be just coincidence. anyway, u will need to make a spacer inside da boot though on the shaft to make it sit right.

i use those wireshelf packaging material spacers. they work perfect. :D
