Every state has a "domestic violence law" similar to that one. "All it takes is a bruise", that you caused! Some states the police have "absolutely no choice at all but to arrest the person who caused the bruise"!
Swat your kid, leave a mark,-you go to jail!

If convicted--You lose your 2nd Amendment right to own a gun-For life!!!

Its pretty simple - self centered people should never get married to each other. Unfortunately it only takes one self centered person to mess it up.....

Since I got married my baby ('81 280ZX) that I had for the previous eight years was stolen while I was in school getting my Electronics Eng Tech. Money was tight but my dad had a third vehicle ('91 Maxima) that I borrowed. As time progressed more kids appeared (how did that happen?) and my wife's old MPV was too small with the addition of foster kids in our house so our plan of me finally getting my 300ZX TT was squished but we ended up with a really nice and reliable '04 Toyota Sienna. I just sold my rental unit and I'm building a second house so if we can afford it once we are done I've got the green light for a 370Z. If not I'll get a second hand 350Z or maybe nothing. This will be my first new car. I've loved the 240Z since I was a kid so I'm really excited about the 370Z with its retro 240Z esque look. Give and take works pretty good - you just have to have the patience to let it work.

Or not. But it's a topic worthy of more than just superficially macho, flippant remarks (though there have been more than a few posts in this thread that haven't been about that and I salute you gentlemen for your insight) because things like this do come up.

I've been married for over 7 years now, and if nothing else, my wife tolerates my obsession with cars. More importantly, she understands why they mean so much to me and wants me to get one. NOT because I threatened to leave her if I didn't get one (and before I get any indignant flame-like responses, I am fully aware that the great majority of these posts were made tongue firmly in cheek) but because I was able to fully and accurately convey the import they have on my life. As a result, it's merely a matter of time and money.

So what can you do in return? Indulge in her obsessions, even if you don't share her passion for her hobby. Support her once in awhile. It's something I had to learn with practice and patience because I was extremely self-centered at the beginning of our marriage. All right, I'm done pontificating, at least for the most part. The last part I'll leave with, which dad kind of alluded to with his law quote, is the written word sometimes masks sarcasm and levity, and no matter how obvious your humor might seem to you, it may miss the mark completely with someone else. And now, back to the discussion of how you and yours can coexist with your brand new sportscar!

S.

Great posting! I've been with my wife for 6 years, married for two, she also knew about my car obsession long before we were married. She knows I don't need a new car (have an 07) but she also knows that I work my *** off and LOVE cars. It doesn't hurt that she likes horse back riding, which is more expensive than my car hobby.

True. My wife is kind enough to undstand my love with cars. She also loves fine cloths. So it is a trade off if i get mods she gets more clothes. Works well but a car is not something to breakup over.

But it is fun to bash on the wives a little. It is a good thing my wife shares my sense of humor or we would not have been together for 10 years now and married for 4

My wife understands my love for cars. This morning after brewing a pot of coffee in the kitchen, I walked into the living room and found her watching Top Gear. It wasn't the first time I caught her either either

All you guys that are married and are having problems should've made sure to set the ground rules before you got married.

I've been with my girlfriend for 4 years now and she understands my passion for sports cars. Well she doesn't really understand it. She understands it as well as I understand her needing to buy new clothes and shoes every week. We just accept it. We have a verbal agreement that I am able to buy a new car every 5 years after we get married. No questions asked. If we can afford it, we'll buy it. That's the only thing that I ask for in our future marriage. As long as it doesn't bankrupt you, you should always support each other's interests. Life is too short to not enjoy and go after what you want.
