I was slowly working on mine, and had a few more small mods planned for the near future. BUT, I decided to put my extra money and time into restoring my old 65 Chevy truck, so my Z mods came to an abrupt stop.

I bought my Z because it unique, among other things I like about it. It's not a car you see in this area every time you're on the road so I really don't have an incentive to personalize or "mod" it. I'm happy with it 100% stock, even though I do see a FI CBE in it's future someday.

But modding a car. I find that as my car gets older (year and a half now) and more miles, I kind of lose interest in doing things to it. There are things that I'd still like to do & all, but just not the drive I had when I first got it. Hell, I had a whole shop full of stuff I'd ordered for it before I even took delivery.

I know a lot of guys keep going until the day they sell it, but I'd wondering if anyone else feels this way about it, that you just kind of lose interest in customizing it once it gets a little older?

wondering how do you do your planning when modding a car...

do you:

1) just go to the shop or web and buy whatever is on the shelf and dump them in your car?

or

2) you mod the part/area that you think it needs to be modded??

that makes the whole story and experience totally different.

I'm 50 and can relate to Foundtainhead, that I don't see a TT in my future or an Amuse body kit. I still like to do mods though and am constantly looking for what is out on the market..

I like to mod but only small stuff. I'll leave the TT to the younger crowd.
I do love to see the mods here though, don't get me wrong.
We are both on the same wave lenght.

I've made the same exact point on this forum more than once. You see guys spending $2-3K on intakes and exhaust to gain a sorry 15-25hp (I may be off a little here but you now what I mean). The car was designed to put out a lot of HP for a small displacement engine. The only way to make huge gains in output is to go with a turbocharger or supercharger and that's $10-15K.

Personally, I like the car the way it is and don't plan on doing any mods. Being 62 years old, I have other priorities like travel and buying new camera stuff to go along with the travel. That's me. If I was 28 I'd have a whole different outlook on life. As you get older your priorities change and that's cool. Nobody's saying modding your car's a bad thing. It's all what you like and what you're willing to spend your limited resources on.

I'm getting older now too, 48. I think I am over serious modding at this point, mainly because I never keep a car more than a couple years, and its a never ending cycle. But, I think I may be getting over that (but don't hold me to it).

As for the Z, I'm done modding it, because basically, now that its a racecar, I've done everything I need to it to make it work the way I want. Should the engine ever go, I will replace with a V8, and as any other parts fail, I will replace with better upgraded ones if available, but I won't be replacing or upgrading just to upgrading any more.

On my other cars, I think after a supercharged 350z and supercharged C6, I'll just stick to no more then a CAI, Exhaust, springs and wheels. Back to basics for me.

When I first got my Z, a little over a year ago, I wanted to do anything and everything to it. But now that I've done some mods and realized that I'm not a future race car driver, I'm happy and have my car setup that fits my needs. I'm not done modding and think I will always love to mod I'm just more realistic.

Like most of the cars I've purchased, I have a mod list in mind right from initial ownership. Then I pick up a couple of ideas from other enthusiasts, but settle down after a couple of years. So my Z has gone without mods for the last year.

I'll keep it until I fall in love with something else. So far, this has been a long love affair by my standards (3+ years). Does that make me a car slut?!

No. The cars are the sluts, except for the Z, which has proved to be girlfriend material
