I drove my buddy's swapped 94' Toyota Trecel for 2 hours last week. Since then, the 370z has been the only car I've ever driven in manual.

I bought the car today, and I've been driving around the city to practice. I've stalled out a few times which is incredibly embarrassing, but it's a process.

And if you guys think a stock 370z is hard to drive try one with a southbend heavy duty clutch. Its even worse =P

Yep the 1st to 2nd grind when shifting fast happens from time to time so don't worry about it. I've owned a 350 previously and have been driving manuals for years but did the most embarrassing thing of manual history the other day. I was day dreaming and coasting to up to a light in 6th. Usually putting it in neutral is a habit if the light changes suddenly and I don't have time to downshift...well I forgot to take it out of gear and stalled in 6th. Now THAT was embarrassing but small, stupid things like that happen to all of us.

If you leave your car in gear in the garage, make sure it is neutral and give it a safety wiggle. I know a guy who forgot and lurched his car into a wall. Don't be that guy.

Elan, regarding your first paragraph, what an idiot Just kidding, we've all done something like that. OP, when you drive a stick, there are times you will do absent minded things or bad shifts will occur, but that's the fun and challenge of driving a stick.

Elan, regarding your 2nd paragraph. Hard to do in the Z cuz you gotta press the clutch when starting.

I got one you can appreciate. My dad is a professional truck driver, he has been doing it for over 30yrs. He and I were talking the other day and he told me he was down in vista, ca going to a stop of his. When he went to get off the freeway he was kinda daydreaming himself and dropped from 10th to 8th. When he popped the cluch out the rear axles were barking like a alley full of hound dogs. It scared the $h!t out of him lol. Our Z's definitely are unique manual transmission cars.

Never really go into first unless its a complete stop. But yeah don't see the harm in coasting in neutral.

And yours was?

OP, I have been driving stick since I was 7 and I learned in a 90s turbocharged sedan. Hell, I can drive my bud's 13 STI like no tomorrow, and shift it like its a CVT. Our clutch is heavier, and has a much quicker engagement which makes it so abrupt (in comparison to an STI, or a Versa). I myself have fun when driving with slippers, since the bottom of my left one keeps getting caught on the mat and causes me to over rev sometimes lol. That's the fun of the car
