OP, yes they do but age has a factor in this also. In my early to mid twenties back in the early 80's I owned a 72 Vette then a 76 280Z. Young ladies whom I didn't know would come up to me all the time and strike up a conversation. When I owned a Toyota Corona before that, I was invisible.

In late 03, (age 45) I was one of the first here to get a G35 Coupe and now the Z (age 55), young ladies will look and a few have said "nice car" but not really looking to strike up a conversation. Oh chit, why'd I write this, I'm all depressed now

When I drove my Subaru, people expected me to be a flat billed hat wearing Ken Block worshiping Brotard. Now that I drive a Z, people are surprised I'm not Asian. Oh well.

What vehicle do you think has the least stereotypes associated with it?

No idea. I'm in TX, so the simple fact I'm not in a truck is out of the ordinary. Maybe a beige Camry?

truck capital of the world yup, it annoys me sometimes seeing all these trucks driving around not actually carrying or hauling anything...

beige camry... yup I pretty much can't think of anything to stereotype about that car lol

So true, I just last week was at a traffic light and mentioned to my wife, we were the only once within 3 rows not sitting in a truck. Next I saw was the one next to me trying to race from the stop.....what is that with trucks want to race anyway.

Other than that, I love being the odd one in a little sports car

There are certain girls at my gym who I've seen and thought nothing of and vice-versa. Not being mean, but most of us are just strangers who go to a gym and workout.

But at least two have seen me in my Z...and then I noticed a change in them. So that's kinda funny.

Totally true. This is why when i was single I always went on the first 2 dates in my orange Mazda. I loved that car, and it was cool IMO... but most women in their late 20s and early 30s didn't necessarily think so. It was a VERY effective tool at weeding out the gold-diggers and those who weren't really interested in me. If they couldn't get past the car (despite the great dates, conversation and me bringing flowers) or they asked to drive the next time it was over for me.

For those that made it to a 3rd date I'd pull up in the Z. You should see their faces when I pulled up. And then when they asked if I got a new car and I say "No, I've had this one for a while but only take it out for those that deserve it."... Seriously no better way to make a girl feel special, change her opinion of you for the better, and turn a girl on. Follow that up with dinner at my "3rd date" restaurant, then dancing at a whole-in-the-wall hip hop club most had never been to, then to my place to seal the deal. Man, those were good days.

The only exception was my wife. I knew she was the one before we even met (talked through email etc before meeting in person). For her I drove the Z on the first date and took her to the 3rd date dinner place on the 1st date. Married now with a 10 month old daughter and couldn't be happier.

I have always had the best sports car I could afford from the age of 17 to present. As others have mentioned my social status has increased right along with it and any lifelong friends are used to it. So for me nothing has changed.

The only exception to this is the people I work with. Unfortunately our pay structure is fixed so we all pretty much know what each other make minus the differences in overtime. I get the vibe all the younger guys hate me, at one time I owned 4 cars (two 370s), a new zx10r, 600, and a small but nice house on a lake. I have cut back on some of my toys but now own two houses on lakes, one I now rent out, and the one we are currently living in. I can’t help it that I know how to budget our money. They all think im a drug dealer on the side.

These types of people just need one more thing to brag about. I had a guy trying to trash talk me at a party and go race him in his truck because all night people were telling me how awesome my car was. I guess with the help of alcohol he finally got the balls to say something because he was jealous. His hoopty turbo diesel was claiming 600hp, which I tried to explain to him would not touch the power to weight ratio of my car but it was like talking to a brick wall. I guess he thought beating my car would make people at the party like him more than me. Even if he would of beat me I was still dancing with my hot *** wife and 3 other girls all night while he creeped in the corner so I still win.

Edit: On the midlife crisis topic......I cant WAIT to see what my midlife crisis car is.

My mom had a beige Camry. It was invisible. You could speed to your heart's content and never get stopped. If I ever decided to smuggle contraband I'd use one.

I've had several occasions where young girls, and I mean girls, like teenagers, say nice car. I know they're not looking at me. They just like the car. THen I had a neighbor lady telling my wife how she saw my car and said to her friend, "there goes a mid-life crisis". I smiled and laughed before I walked off.

I've heard more about the midlife crisis than anything else. Fact is, the midlife crisis was years ago when I bought the Mustang 5.0. The Z is just about getting back to what I've always loved. My second car was an MGA. My roommate had a TR4. We helped each other work on them and tune up the SU carbueretors and fix the Lucas wiring.

I've always liked sports cars. I had to drive a pickup for a few years while we were in the home remodeling phase. And that coincided with the Windstar van while in the kid raising phase. I guess people like to label you no matter what you drive. Our brains are hardwired to classify things into neat little boxes.

if you're young and you buy a sports car people think you're a spoiled brat
if you're middle aged and buy a sports car people think you're going through a mid life crisis

sounds like a bunch of jelly people to me, haters gonna hate
