Do people treat you differently because of what you drive? IMO YES!

Ever since I purchased the Nismo 2 months ago I have noticed a big change in how people treat you. Previously, I drove a 2008 Honda Civic LX...nothing fancy, just a great commuter car. Now with the Z, I have gotten a lot more attention from people I knew but never really hung out with. I find it odd because I still act the same and treat people the same before and after the Z. Now these people I never hung out with are calling me to go hang out and asks if I want to join their car meet etc. As for another example, people at work keep asking me if I received a promotion (which I didn't). They say my family must be rich and asks me how much the car cost me (somebody thought it cost over 50k). When I tell them it wasn't expensive and cost under 30k they were shocked. I bought the Z because I've always loved the Z car and thought it was a great price for all that you get. Have you guys experienced the same thing happen to you when you got your Z?

When I got my Z, the girls I hung out with wanted me to give them a ride everywhere. Anna was the only one to admit she just wanted people to see her getting out of a sexy red car (the other girls just gave BS answers). No one EVER hit me up when I drove that Galant.

My guys didn't really treat me differently. They just became obnoxious, telling me about races that were happening in Western Seattle, and trying to set me up to race STI's all the time. I don't know how many times I heard, "...nah man, you got this! Just one race!" I stopped hanging out with people for a few weeks because my car was the ONLY thing people wanted to talk about.

As for people asking how much it costs, I figured it would happen. Sociology taught me how people live vicariously through others. And asking a question like, "How much did you pay for it?" is usually the result of learned behavior or jealous comparison...still bothers me today nonetheless:shakes head:

Nope...nobody really cared when I got my Z.

They were all saying the same thing: "Glad you finally got rid of that loud clunker car!" and that was it.

:( they didn't treat me differently but I did feel they made fun of me.
"soooo, mid life crisis car huh?"
yeah. Heard that. A LOT. not happy about it but whatevers.

Yes, my social life changed dramatically when i got my Z. Likewise, I went out of my way to talk and become friends with people because of their cars. If we both have the same interests, we would prob get along and we did. Going to cars and Coffee with a Tiburon i was more of a watcher, now with the Z im part of the shows, going on cruises, making Friends, ect. I wouldn't say its just that people like the Z and not me, they like me because i choose to buy the Z.

On an opposite note, some of my friends didn't like that i bought the Z, they were jealous, or thought i was a sell out or something and never took an interest in it, despite being car guys since we were young.

I guess there is a certain degree of physco analysis that can be done for this, do people/girls like YOU or the car? Are they using you to get to the car? Or do they like you because you like cars, ect.

Yes. When I drive my XKE I get all kinds of attention that I do not get while driving my Z.

Old and young alike comment and converse.

None of my friends treat me different. I'd second guess the friendship if they did. People I don't know tell me the car is cool... but I wouldn't sasy they treat me different either. I'm thinking where you live might play into that factor and age?

Absolutely 100% yes.

I'm just like you were...long time Civic driver before I got the Z.

To answer your question directly, I've never had a stranger strike up a conversation with me about my car while we were both taking care of business at the urinal.

That was a first.

Some things don't happen in a Pinto

I'm not sure, but I never had a bunch of attractive young ladies jump out of their truck at a red light to hop into my other cars, like they did as I drove the Cocoa Beach Fla. coastline in my "Z."

Nor have men and women of all ages expressed their "love" for my other rides as they have for the "Z" ... at red lights ... in traffic ... as I park at the mall ... at my apartment complex ... at work. You get the idea.

Wish I could attribute this attention to my sparkling personality or male model like looks, but somehow I'm thinking it is, in fact, the car.

It's like wearing a nice hat. It earns more praise than a terrible looking one, but it isn't particularly important.

Aznsensazn 08-20-2013 12:28 PM

Girls like it, that's for sure. But I'm in Texas so girls also really like trucks...
