And the VIN does not tell you what model it is. If it did, there would need to be another character added to the VIN aside from the normal number of characters for this...

Maybe if they take the last five, the serial number, and use that only it might be able to bring up more specifics of your car. But that is an individual number, not a special character to identify all cars of that model.

Yeah sorry. I didn't read that post or didn't notice it was you...
As for the VIN, I think yes you can't tell what model your z is just from the VIN itself. What I was trying to say is, the VIN rather is the key to the database that holds the information on your vehicle that will tell you what model the z is.
