Yes you do have to break the engine in....It's not like Nissan does it for you. You have to allow the rings and gaskets, etc time to expand, contract and seed into place. Running the hell out of it with super low mileage is not a good idea. Of course some will say it doesn't matter....I trust the dude with 30yrs that told me not to take it over 4k for the first 2000 miles and also to not drive at a consent speed but to very my speeds.

As far as the after market parts go. It shouldn't matter unless it's something to do with the new engine. Hell I would just wait until 2000 then mod away. It'll come faster than you think. One weekend of driving around I was able to put almost 600miles on her.
