Search.

If your car has it, I would pull the fuse just to be on the safe side.

All SLUs, regardless of revision, are prone to failure.

Nissan stopped installing SLUs in 370Zs sometime during the 2011 model year.

Mid 2011 had it per the documented issues other members had. If you look under your steering wheel you will see a silver box like part. The last four numbers on the part itself should read f00d to be in the clear.

New Rule to avoid Steering Lock Failure: "When in doubt, take it (the fuse) out." You have nothing to lose.

That is an interesting attachment.

My '11 was built in July of 2011. I'd read about the infamous steering wheel lock problems here many times, but I figured that my Z was late enough to not be affected. I thought it was just a problem with 2009-2010's. But my VIN is a hundred or so within the affected range on that PDF.

But curiously, I'm pretty sure I do not have a steering lock. There are no noises or clicks from the steering column when I start/stop the engine. And I'm pretty sure that the wheel can be turned when the car is off. I'll have to check at lunch. I bought it new, and I haven't disabled anything.

I'll take another look at the excellent write-ups that are over on the DIY thread and see what I've got going on under my dash. (DIY: 2009 - 2010 Steering Wheel Lock Fix w/ Pics!)

Yes if you can turn the steering wheel with the ignition off then there is no steering lock.

^^This! It's not hard to determine if you have a SLU. Either look beneath the steering column for the unit or simply turn the wheel left and right with the car off - if it doesn't lock you're golden (if it does, hope and pray that it doesn't crap out on you this time )
