Update: I went to the dealership to retreive the car after work today (I work 7PM-7AM for now) as the service rep had called me at 3PM the previous day to advise that the car was repaired and ready to be picked up.

I was met at the door with a, "Mr. Stearns, I was about to call you! I think I may have just saved you $100!"

At this point I'm thinking, "yeah, here comes the typical dealer ********."

He tells me that while they were fixing the SLU, they somehow fried the driver door window motor and asked if I "had a few minutes while they checked it out."

Sure, after working all night I had a "few minutes," so I had a seat in the waiting room.

45 minutes later the service rep is nudging me awake (I had fallen asleep) in the waiting room, people sitting all around me probably wondering what the hell was going on, only to tell me that I was "in luck" and that they "had the part and could fix it in an hour or two."

Needless to say, I told him I don't have time for his **** and to call me when the car was truly repaired and ready to go.

What's more upsetting to me is how he told me he "saved me $100." I assume he is referencing the $100 deductible I would have paid to have the window motor replaced. I think what he really meant to say is "Mr. Stearns, I saved my own life by discovering we ruined your window motor as I know that had you discovered this after leaving the dealership on this dreadfully rainy day, you surely would have crashed your car right into our showroom and dutifully decapitated me."

I hate the dealer!

The 370Z recall is number P3208. I got this number from my Nissan dealership. if they say it is for 2009-2010 only, call Nissan HQ. When mine went out, before the recall, I had it repaired and called Nissan. They gave me a refund and after a number of us harassed Nissan and the NHSTA (?) Nissan issued the recall. Push for 2011 to be included.

My 2011 370z has the same issue, I took it yesterday to the dealer and it is the same Steering Lock failure that others are experiencing here. Dealer is asking me $1200 to fix it. This being such a common issue, why are they not proactively fixing is them being very manipulative. I went through the thread and have reported the issue to Nissan Online and NHTSA. According to the dealer it will be fixed tomorrow and I can pick it up.
Any advise on how to approach for a refund?

they charged me about 1100. You need to call NISSAN Consumer affairs (800-647-7261)they'll open a case. I did, they didn't pay but, the more complaints they get the better chance of getting reimbursed. call (800-647-7261), have your vin ready.
tell them that you know a bunch of people with the same problem.

Just called, after confirming that the part in recall P3208 was the Electric Steering Lock Mechanism I asked why they didn't apply the P3208 to my case, girl on the other line started say something about the part not being the same, I realized she was reading, asked her to stop reading, told her the part was the same and asked her to tell me why in her own words, I'm not sure she knows her own name. I'm supposed to get a call from a "higher up" in 4 - 8 business hours. Last time I was told that by Nissan it took 5 full business days. I'll keep you posted.

Default Same here: About month ago

I think it was about a month ago that that my 2010 370z NISMO experienced the same issue. Wasn't covered under warranty as it wasn't part of the drive train. Cost $1,200 to replace ($800 main part, plus secondary part and labor).

just pull the SL fuse. Don't understand why everyone wants to hassle with the dealerships. This is a headache that's not worth it and your personal time is better spent elsewhere. just pull the sl fuse, it takes 10 minutes at best.

My 2010 Nismo is at 72,000 miles and out of factory warranty...

Last week the steering lock failure struck without warning.....

flat bed truck to a local Sunnyvale, California Nissan dealership...

Nissan part number D8700-JF00D = 909.90 Lock Steering

Labor = 217.50

Contacted Nissan corporate and emailed them copies of many
complaints from other forum sisters and brothers who had
the same famous steering lock failure.

Nissan Corporation is sending me a check for the entire cost
incurred.

Angry

I will know tomorrow if my issue is the steering lock failure. Mine was in its cozy, warm garage last Friday and when I went to start it up - no go. Glad I was home and not stranded at a grocery store parking lot! I had never head about this steering lock issue until I started doing research on it. Boy was I educated! Armed with all the information I've read on this forum and others, I called the dealership first and conveyed my suspicions. The service rep thought it might be my battery, but this proved not the case. I called Nissan Consumer Affairs yesterday, was issued a case number and got a call back from them this morning. Once I get a diagnosis from the dealer, we will go to the next step. I also have a Quality-Guard Plus Supreme service contract that is in effect until 72,000 miles (I'm at 52,000) and the CA rep told me the dealer would have to let me know if the steering lock issue is covered. If it isn't, I plan to raise holy hell! The flatbed tow truck comes tomorrow morning at 8:00. I'll post an update.

I did the exact same thing, got a case #, they said they'ld call within 24 hours, that was Monday Morning, I tried and tried to reach them after Tuesday, finally got a hold of them Friday, it was a no go. Only reason, my vin wasn't on the list. WTF. So I saved the old part... I really hope you have better luck!!!

Is there not a recall for these yet? I see some members saying they've had theirs replaced under recall at the dealership. Anyone have info?
