Default I got hit too!

I have a late 2010 base model and the steering lock failed last week - dealer said they couldn't get it covered under warranty, and that the ESCL was the "upgraded" part. I called Nissan Customer service and a week later they said they wouldn't help - I hung up on the guy I was so pissed. $1,200+ down the drain! I guess I'll pull the fuse, now. My local dealer thankfully let me keep a loaner for the week, until I ran out of time waiting for NISSAN to decide not to cover it, got it replaced.

I'm happy to say that the steering lock was the problem and it was NOT covered as part of the voluntary campaign...they said the part that failed was one of the "revisions" of the original part with the issue. However, the warranty I bought covered it with a $100.00 deductible. I still say it's a defective part, regardless of what revision of the lock was used!!

You should call Nissan corporate USA if you have not done so.

I read somewhere that this problem only affects the 2009 and early 2010 models. My sticker says my Z was built in May 2010, does anyone know if that is when they fixed the issue or if I have one that will inevitably break?

Call a dealer and give them your VIN.

I had the steering wheel lock issue last Friday on my '09 370Z. I took it to the dealership, and got charged $1127.52 !!! The dealership claimed that they've already replaced it back in 2013. Nissan corporate wouldn't reimburse me for their defective part, claiming that I am out of warranty (parts warranty = 1yr or 12k miles). This is a very ridiculous warranty for a NON WEAR-&-TEAR part. I even explained to her that replacement part could be defective as well, since it failed in less than 2 yrs!!! This is really disappointing on Nissan part, and I'm wondering if there is a class action lawsuit going on for this or maybe we should start one up. I spoke with Trish, and she directed me to mail any legal stuff to :

NISSAN USA Consumer Affairs
P.O. Box 685003
Franklin , TN 37068

So if there IS a class action lawsuit going on for this, let me know, I'd like to jump in. If not, let's get enough disgruntled owners and sue Nissan for this travesty. This will be the LAST time me or my family ever buys any NISSAN product!

I thought the same thing - until it happened! Don't believe the date limits, its happening to many model years, pull the fuse while you still can.

And calling NISSAN USA was a huge waste of time, other than the fact that they presumably have a record of ANOTHER failure. They jacked me around for more than a week, and then when they call back I find out that the rep. I was trying to stay in contact with either quit or was fired (I'm convinced he was fired); and NISSAN just flushed my case.

So I should pull the fuse even though there's not a problem so that it doesn't happen in the future? Dumb question but I'm only a month new to the Z

If you have an ESCL, I'd pull the fuse (or otherwise disable it; there are other options). It appears that ALL revisions of the ESCL are prone to failure.

As far as I can tell, the ESCL has only one purpose - theft-deterrence. If somebody is going to steal a 370Z, the ESCL is not going to slow them down even one second; the car will be winched onto a trailer and gone in an instant.

See link in my sig for some summaries of what has been posted about ESCLs, including the options mentioned above.
