my friend put a viper system in his 370 a few months ago. works just fine. you just can't leave it in gear.

Ah. Autos use the PNP switch and manuals use the clutch depressed switch. That could be a problem. Another plus for the 7AT.

I just installed one in my Honda (my DD). I was reading the manual to see how to start the car if it was installed on a manual car. The procedure is as follows.

while the car is still running:
put the car in neutral
apply the parking break
hit the remote start button on the remote
remove the key from the ignition (the car should continue to run)
get out of the car and shut all the doors
hit lock/arm on the remote.

when you hit lock on the remote the car's engine should shut off and activate the remote start the next time you try to start it. This procedure needs to be done everytime you leave your car otherwise the system won't even attempt to remote start.

all that being said it's still kind of a scary thought to have it done on a manual car, and that's why I would never do it to my Z, also because I only drive it here in the summers!!

I agree. it is very scary. I had mine installed with a "kill switch" to where if I leave my car at the shop I flipped that hidden switch and the remote start won't work at all. But all it takes is for me to forget to switch that switch and somebody accidentally remote start the car (if car was left in gear parked) and bam there goes the car. I just feel more comfortable now with it uninstalled and knowing that something I don't need to worry about. and like I said I got my dd and its a automatic. I might put a starter on that

I've got a remote start on my standard car that I drive in winter. It is impossible to start it in gear. Here is how it works:

When I park somewhere I remove the key and the engine stays running. The engine continues to run until I exit the vehicle at which case it locks all the doors and shuts off the engine. If the car does not shut of in this manner then the remote start will not work. Also if any door to the vehicle is opened the car will not remote start. Pretty fool proof system, its literally impossible to remote start the vehicle in gear unless you climb through a window to put it in gear after its shut off.

Never heard of this method before but sounds like it would work. Is that how the remote start was installed or did the installer have to modify it.

They come like that, its a compustar system.

Here is a user manual of a typical compustar system... Go read the section on reservation mode for manuals. Its on page 9
