A rediculously hard decision...

Well since i have my Z, im not really picky. Something affordable and reliable. Doesnt have to be pretty.

Well the Z takes up about 25% of my budget a month not counting insurance every 6 months. So i would say, something for 10k or below to be safe.

Damn that's a lot of your budget on a car. Have you done any forecasting to see how much the kid will cost you?

Counting insurance your Z will cost you at least 28 percent of your monthly budget....without kid. Your kid will take that and more when it all adds up. That's pretty tight and leave no margin for unexpected events and other expenses. Hell I have friends that make over 150k per year that drive beaters due to kids in college and mortgages. When you have a wife and kids and your 21. Sometimes sports cars have to wait a bit. But it's your life and your decision.

Congrats fearless on the kid. The really good advice on this thread are really pleasing to read and attest to the maturity of the members on this forum.
That being said, I just want to add something based on my experience being myself a father (As I'm typing this my little one is kicking me and causing all kinds of stir ). It was advice from much older friends/coworkers that allowed me to go through our process without too much stress.
Everyone has got their own finances, if you believe that it's not financially sound to own the Z while having the baby, then sell it or trade it in for a family oriented car - you can always purchase the 390z in the future. You have new priorities man and a ton more planned and unplanned charges awaiting you now... meaning that a lot of your fun toys desires might have to be readjusted for the long term stability of your family (GTR is gone for the time being in my future). You have to take things such as baby expenses (I paid 10k cash over the past few months between the hospital bills/kids needs), lost income (My wife stopped working for close to a year now to bond with the kid during those early stages so there goes at least $50k after taxes income lost income every year), college savings, bigger house... into consideration. So start saving now because that will take a lot of stress away later and allow you to enjoy your family more.
Best of luck with your decision and congrats once again

Sell the Z and buy a reliable used 4 door sedan. Don't put yourself in financial stress, especially the way the economy is. You have plenty of time to get back into a sports car. Hell, even in 4-5 years they can crawl in the back and get themselves into a car seat. My daughter has done fine the last 4 years with my beater 06 Civic Si coupe.

and birdman is right... just becasue you can "afford" it, doesn't mean it's a wise financial decision. I could afford a much nicer second car than my civic si but it's paid off and it only has 50k miles on. Id rather own my house free and clear in 10 years.

If a Z is 25% of the budget I'd imagine even a new ST would be a little on the pricey side. I'm thinking a used sedan under $20k.

Buy a used 4door and use that until your kid stops pooping in their pants and throwing food all over the car. Kids are messy and parents get tired and lazy. Your nice car won't stay nice for long.

You have to look at it from all angles. See what's best for you and the future of your family. Don't go and say to your girl "well a bunch of guys on the Internet told me to sell my Z, so I'm going to sell it". If you think it's right then do it, if not figure out a way to obtain a car to accommodate your needs for a reasonable price. Only you know your real financial capabilities and what you can and cannot afford.
