Haboob 04-02-2013 06:47 PM

I spent my afternoon trying to dodge a number of these.

Sudden loss of visibility on the road and such wasn't my concern... it was making my car dirty.

JARblue 04-02-2013 08:06 PM

I took off my front bumper just for the hell of it  My wife is out of town, so I can drive her car which is also good because the Z is freshly washed and the weather is nasty.

And, for some reason I cannot understand, I polished the front bumper reinforcement :ugh2:

And that was a small one! I had to haul *** to beat a huge dust=devil before it crossed the road. :icon17:

These are our little "tornadoes", lol. The only destruction is to your paint and interior (if you get caught with your windows down).

OCD much? :icon17:

Holy crap, so its possible to get it that shiny? Steel wool?

I had my bumper off too early this week, would have totally done that lol.

As for me, I took my car to the dealership, got my Steering lock changed for free, I waited around for 1 hr and had her back, so not bad at all.

Oh and I installed my lip and EVO R emblem while I had the bumper off

nope, microfiber pad pulled out of the trash can :rofl2:

I used two of them the day prior to clean my exhaust tips with Adam's Metal Polish 1 and 2. That stuff works amazingly well. My previous experience with metal polishes has been so poor, I am sold on this stuff.

Lip and emblem look great, btw

Pintsize725 04-04-2013 09:52 AM

Dropped one part of my Evo-R lip back off at the wrap place. They are going to try a new material in hopes of it sticking better. If that doesn't work, I'll be spray painting the darn thing satin black.

lol, right out the trash huh, nice.

I've been hearing a lot about that Adam's metal polish, I'll have to look into it.

and thanks :tiphat:

Interesting that it leaves the aluminum with a mirror-like finish. It must have wax in it to maintain that luster, since the haze that settles over aluminum in minutes is actually oxidization forming aluminum oxide (Aluminum's version of "rust") which, incidentally, is precisely why aluminum is considered highly corrosion resistant. That "hazed" aluminum, aluminum oxide, is actually harder and tougher than bare aluminum is.

Without that haze, or something else to protect the aluminum from oxygen (like wax), aluminum will actually corrode and decay at an alarmingly rapid rate.

Google "Aluminum Rust Mercury" for more info. Basically Mercury, when in direct contact with unprotected aluminum, will prevent formation of aluminum oxide on the surface, resulting in rapid decay of the aluminum. It's spooky how fast it'll go.

And there's your nearly worthless information of the day.

Man, I almost hit three of those things yesterday here in Las Cruces. Crazy huge too.

Wasn't driving the Z though. Rental car FTW. So yeah, that's what I did with my Z today. I let it sit in the drive back home. :)

Just bought two more rear tires. 285/35/19 RE-11's.

The rears right now have 22k on them which is pretty good for RE-11's but threads are showing.

Now I'm debating whether or buy a Yamaha R1, the new GTM TT kit, or misc stuff for the Z like stillen facia/slotted rotors/TE37SL's/coli overs

JARblue 04-05-2013 10:48 AM

This morning I picked up a Mobil 1 oil filter for the oil change this weekend.

Yesterday, I made a step for the Z so my floor jack will reach the front center jack point

^^ I always go in from the front. Is it safe to jack in the center from the side?

lol actually, I didn't even think about that. I always jack it up from the front, too. I just took the photo there to show the jack clearing the side skirts and the tire on the step. At one point very near the jack point, the plastic undershroud hangs down further than the side skirts, but by the the time I get the puck to the jack point, the jack still clears it from the front. I don't think I could jack it up from the side because the jack would be right in the way of where I need to put a jack stand.

Got my baby back after not driving her the last 3 months of deployment!!!! :driving:

No one cares about a Z at that point hahaha

dmhenderson 04-06-2013 09:32 AM

Toooo much.

Today I'm going to clay the car, then use a battery of adams products (paint correction, swirl&haze remover, buttery wax, glaze). Time to put the allweathers away too!

Haboob 04-06-2013 09:32 AM

Berk HFC/CBE installed last night. A few adjustments and it'll be perfect. Sounds amazing though!

Got up early today to take my car to the dealer for a scheduled oil change and check a error code I'm getting with Torque Pro. It took about 30 minutes to change oil and reprogram the ECU. I was expecting to get standard bulk oil but was surprised they put in Kendall 5W-30 full synthetic oil.

While I was there I walked to the showroom. They had a new 2013 Z exactly like mine and a solid black 2014 GT-R in the showroom. The GT-R had "Please do not touch" signs on all four windows. I couldn't help thinking "WOW, if the GT-R is that fragile I'm not sure I'd want one". The Z next to it didn't have any signs on it.

On the way home I stopped at Pet Supermarket to get some pet food. When I want back to my Z I was getting ready to pull our when a Dodge Challenger Was backing into a space near mine, and of course he had to rev his engine several times to get his car positioned correctly. The rest of the trip home was without any additional drama.

Haboob 04-06-2013 10:35 AM

I'm at work today (woo hoo, easy OT) and look out the breakroom window and see a silver 370. Looks so pretty parked there on the street. I want to run to the garage and grab mine and park next to it, it looks so lonely out there. :(

I've got a dude in my neighborhood with a fartcan exhaust on his G35 that used to drive by every morning and rev his engine just to be a douche. Then the FI exhaust/cats went on and the douchelord behavior stopped pretty quickly.
