I've been considering one of these since I got my Z.

I installed the ZSpeed undertray -- it was a piece of cake to install:

Looks good! I've been wanting these but can't get over the gap they leave on one side.

What do you mean?

If you look at the blade, it doesn't run the entire length of the side skirt. Depending on where you place it, the gap can be either on the front end or back end.

So for a 2 to 5 shift...

Clutch in
Shifter to 3rd, shifter to 4th shifter to 5th
clutch out

That said, hopefully they can get it working like you want it to!

Edit: Here's a tip, give the transmission's input shaft longer to spin down before trying to put it into the higher gear. That'll take the strain off of the synchros.

I would understand that if the syncros across all the gears were a single set, but having dual syncros on gears 4-6, that's supposed to eliminate any engine speed/transmission speed offset to allow the gear to slide in, and not grind. I'm not in the habit of changing the method of driving to suit one car unless is a specialty car (Formula Enterprise class specifically). I've driven 5 other manual Z's and haven't experienced this (3 were 'before I owned my Z' test drives and didn't drive it in the manner I would normally). The 2 I drove over the weekend were both MT Zs with sports pkg. A 2010 and a 2012, one with 42K and one with 23.5K miles. I could not replicate the problem on either of the two.

Coming onto a freeway, getting up to 55-60 in 2nd, then climbing every gear :3rd, 4th, 5th, to OD would slow me back down to 40-45 and I would end up downshifting again to get back to freeway speeds.

I'm hearing you say, "Oy! Don't accelerate hard in your sportscar (HA HA RACE CAR):roflpuke2:. You'll have to downshift after touching each gear to safely get to overdrive because all that speed you gained was just wasted while you're fiddling around with all the gears your car has in it."

18 vehicles owned, 9 manual cars/trucks. I've seen this only when sychros are crushed (1 car and 1 truck) or the throwout bearings was literally coming apart or an arm broke off(2 cars).

I do trust your judgement, however I cannot imagine grinding from 3rd to 5th is acceptable. If I had video with sound, I'm certain you would agree it's not right.

Thanks. Me too. I'm just all 'stabby' right now with the Z in the shop.:shakes head:

Yeah if it's noticeably different from what the other Z's of similar age and configuration have, then you've almost certainly got something wrong.

Hope they can figure it out, keep on them!

Did you just re-use the factory fasteners?
I think a couple are missing from careless techs changing my oil at the dealer. :/

I paid Z-speed an extra 10 bucks (I think it was 10) to get the complete bolt and fastener set from them.

Yea but it was confusing they have me screw clamps and it didn't need to go would have saved me the trouble if they had some instructions. Also the trap door has a Allan screw to open and close so make sure ou have that handy.

It comes right off I'll post next time but it will be a while lol. When I did a test open its easy access to the drain plug and oil filter

But you changed your oil and filter while it was off, right? :icon23:

silentnightz 04-26-2013 02:10 PM

Yea I had it off changed everything then put it on. Opened the trap door to check for oil leaks. Judging from how the oil came out it has plenty of clearance. (Note I was using a lift)

Well, they couldn't. So, they'll be replacing the entire transmission. It was horrible, but 'drive-able'. So, I turned in my bad-*** Sentra courtesy car and picked up the Z. Once the trans comes in, hopefully they'll give me a GTR courtesy car!!!:bowrofl:

Isn't it amazing, that so much satisfaction and group appreciation can be found in doing something as simple as putting the ezpass in the best place on our cars?
I did the same thing, in FL we have the sticker variety, and I put it half way up into the headliner to hide as much as possible, and felt so much satisfaction at having done it right!

The ones in PA are big and white. In addition to black spray paint, I had a friend get me the right kind of high-strength, high-heat Velcro in black. I don't know where he gets it (he's a tint and vinyl guy) but I couldn't find it at the usual places.

brucelidat 04-26-2013 09:50 PM

Had blue g35 do a 3 lane change and cut me off/would have hit me if i didn't swerve. Luckily I was int he right most exit lane and there was space to my right. I hate reckless weaving cars. Must have been jealous that the z is newer, faster, handles, and looks better.

I would do that, but the cops in VA will pull you over on the 495 hot lanes if they can't easily see your EZ Pass. So lame.

After picking my 7th grader up from school yesterday, normally I turn before getting to the High School to avoid the traffic there. But today had to make a stop at Rite-Aid, so had to go by the High School.
Make it past the school just fine. It's a 5 lane road. I'm in far right lane. Teenage girl in a honkin' big SUV (sorry it all happen to fast to get a better description) decides she needs to make a right hand turn. Unfortunately, she is in the left lane & right beside me. Now it's not like she just drifts into the lane I'm in, no she is making a full blown right hand turn right into my drivers side door.
I am able to make an avoidance move that keeps my month old 2013 Z out of the body shop or more likely the junkyard. (Thank you Z, for your maneuverability & acceleration powers)
As I am pulling away, I look in the rear view. Her close call at totaling a Z has not dampened her desire to make that damn right turn. And I watch in the review as she runs the car in back of me off the road in order to complete her turn.
As the owner of both a Z & a teenage (16) girl driver, all I can say is... *sigh*
