Let me know if you are up for it one of these days! Today I took the 17 north to the 260, through Cottonwood up to Jerome and down to Prescott. I like ending up in Prescott because there are a few awesome places to eat and a lot less traffic than Flag!

May have to join you guys one of these days too.

Gotta get some free time and extra money for road-trip gas though.

Finally pulled the trigger on my Quaife LSD. (And nismo diff cover... Why not)

Can't wait to se how we do in the snow. Stock VLSD is nearly worthless when it's slippery out.

Installed next week, stay tuned!

After a spa day for the Z yesterday, bubble bath, AKA foamer, citrus soak, and treadacure, the Z took a needed day off relaxing on a cloudy Florida day under the carport to get ready for another week of furious interstate driving.

madwi 02-24-2013 04:12 PM

I looked at the car in the garage and noticed how dirty it was and thought I might wash it. I ended up back inside sitting next to the warm fireplace. That is so much better than frozen fingers. I am so anxious for spring to get here so I can go for a drive.

Finished up my GT Mat install in the rear hatch. Very pleased with the product and final results

It reduces movement of the transmission during acceleration and deceleration, and gives you a more solid feel. The OEM mount is really designed to reduce as much NVH as possible from the cabin. Its just like the diff bushings, they are soft and mushy, and allow tons of movement with the powertrain.

I'm probably going to buy Z1 urethane engine mounts and diff bushings next.

LMBmikeZ 02-24-2013 08:47 PM

 MJB new one looks much more solid!

How much extra cabin noise is there? I'd like to do this upgrade, but wanted to know how noisy it gets over stock? Especially if you add a lightweight flywheel to the mix.

Honestly, I haven't noticed any increase in noise or anything. I also have a lightweight flywheel.

Don't expect to NOT hear pebbles bouncing up in your wheel well or anything. It seems to be most effective against general road noise vibrating through the tires. Stuff that bounces up underneath the car definitely sounds more muted, though. I only have two short drives with the install so far, so I will have a better idea after a few days. But right now, it is better than I imagined

There are before videos, so I'm going to try to do a comparison after video that mimics the before one as close as possible. The videos include an audio (stock, unfortunately) test while parked and a driving test accelerating to and cruising @ 70 mph. I just wish we had more video of varying road surfaces - the road we were on was pretty quiet so I'm not sure how much difference there will be. I used a simple decibel app on my iPhone, so we'll have to use the same method for comparison. I didn't get my hands on a nice SpL meter until this weekend after I was half way done with the install, but I will use it for a final result dB reading even if it doesn't have a before reading to compare.

Also, while I am impressed with the hatch sound now, I think that doing the doors will be even more noticeable since I sit a lot closer to them. I can't say for sure how the overall dB readings would change. I am definitely planning to do the doors, but I'll have to pick up some more GT Mat Onyx. The hatch took all 18 squares that I had.

Unless you finish the project with a mass loaded vinyl barrier and closed cell foam. GT Mat takes the "ping" noise out of the rocks hitting the wheel well.

Exactly, you still hear them, but they are muted and don't make the metallic "ping" sound

Just dropped her off for a wheel alignment. I really need to get a lifetime one set up already.

First of all, Nice Job  Like you, did the hatch and I also did the doors. Biggest difference in doors for me is hearing my speakers better, as I just got reg sound system that comes w/spt pkg.

Washed, clay bar & waxed Z & GTI. Time for a beer :yum:
