They will keep the 5.0 for performance but the Turbo4 2.0 has already been taken to 275 hp/280 ft/lbs in one iteration and to 300 hp in another . The V6 users aren't going to be as critical of engine type as the V8 crowd and if they save on gas, the help the fleet average. I'd bet 5.0 and 2.0 turbo for the 2015 model. They could go withhte turbo V6 as the power option but I'd bet they's see a large loss in their existing base and Ford ain't stupid. Hell, they may offer all three. Choice is nice!

Given the price, if the 370 came with let's say 400HP I think a lot of people would look to the 370 over the GTR.

I hope they do not put a turbo 4 in the mustang. A V6 for the "regular" model sure but a turbo 4? The car is too big and heavy unless they completely move away from the muscle car roots the Mustang has.

I have seen some pictures of what the next gen Mustang is going to look like and IMO it is the wrong direction. Either way I could care less...I have my GT500 and I love it...if Ford does go down what I consider the wrong path I'd pick up a 2013 GT500 later down the road if I had to. Although, I plan on keeping my GT500 for a long time and it's not a daily driver so except for catastrophic engine failure or accident I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Just my opinion on what Ford should do with the Mustang...keep it a muscle car or improve upon and evolve the current platform ie IRS weight improvement. I could see the GT500 coming out with an auto version, imagine what the 2013 GT500 would do with a transmission similar to that of the GTR let alone IRS added to that equation.
Ford did this already with the 1974 Mustang. It was a disaster!

YA just like the idea of putting a tt-v6 in a vette is horrible. I hope it doesn't become a reality...

Ford is the wrong comparison since they only have the Mustang to work with. Chevrolet has different models that threaten to overlap when the highest output option is matched to the lowest option of the next rung up which is more comparable to Nissan's product structure.

I imagine a Z SpecV with 425-480 hp with launch control, and the most sophisticated braking and traction control system available matching up very closely to the 2007 GT-R performance numbers. Keep it under $50K out the door and you regain the title of best performance car for your dollar.

Problem is if they did this not many would opt for a GTR.

They would now have a choice between a used GT-R or a new Z. Either way they are buying Nissan. Most "what should I get" forums here are for a Z or a 5.0 or a Corvette. The gap between the Z and GT-R is too great and needs to be narrowed.

Exactly.

Ford:
V6 Mustang 300HP
V8 Mustang 415HP
Mustang GT500 660HP

Chevy
V6 Camaro 300HP
V8 Camaro 420HP
Corvette 438HP
Corvette Z06 505HP
Crovette ZR1 638HP

Nissan
370Z 332HP
GTR 545HP

...do you guys NOT see the difference here?!?!

If the Z was bumped up for 400-420HP it wouldn't take away from the GTR at all. Each year the GTR gets a spec bump and price increase. It costs MORE than twice our cars, with good reason, but if the Z can close the gap it would make it much more competitive and fun, all without taking away from a GTR. A GTR is considered by many as a "super car", hence the price tag and its capability to kick *** around any track. The Z couldn't touch the GTR even with 400HP, so it would only help sell the Z because many people expecting more start to turn to the V8 domestics and Nissan loses out on those sales to Ford and Chevy.

I for instance have been heavily considering a Corvette, but due to each and every old fart owning one I have held off.

I'd love to see that V8 in the next Z car.

Remember Nissan (somebody) mentioned CAFE standards may need to be improved.

370Z 18/26 MPG. V6 is 2 MPG better on each end. Hardly the normal V6 vs V8 difference.

I've never made either number in the real world either.

The real world isn't what CAFE cares about. making the Z a 100mpg car won't change the average fuel economy of Nissan motors. Changing the High volume cars a few mpg would make a big difference. All this noise is just show boating to sound good.

Nissan sells like 40k Altimas a month, I think the Z sells well under 500.

I completely agree with you.

CAFE standards are what was mentioned by Nissan so I am intentionally not forgeting this point, even though I'd like too. I like the math as well: 40K vs 500 monthly sales.
