Former Z Owner's Rant about the 370z

^ S2K has a better feeling gearbox, yes, but its also due to the fact that its putting down 150 lb-ft of torque lol, tranismissions are designed with the engine

Anyway, back to the topic. I really feel like the Z is one of the few "true" sports cars left out there with a simple manual transmission gear box, without too many gizmos and gadgets inside the car trying to launch it as fast as possible (GT-R) in the market along with a few Porsches, which is why I got it. I like the way Ford has gone, going back to its roots and creating a manual transmission fun sports car that rivals the feel of the old 60's stangs. The s2000 (discontinued) miata and cars like the M3, 1M, Porsche GT3 are the few old school sports cars still left out there. I'd take the Z over one a lot of those new cars that take the driver out of the experience (see GT-R and most new Mercedes Sports cars)

Rumor has it the S2K transmission not only can handle ~500 ft/lbs of torque, it still feels great laying it down.

Not a rumor but a fact, I used to own a 580whp 390wtq s2k and stock transmission did great for the 3 years that I owned it (the car was driven hard), all that's needed is a new clutch.

From what I remember people on s2ki did big turbo builds on stock transmission, the weak link was the differential which was remedied by going aftermarket.

To this day I can't think of a manual transmission that shifts as nice as the s2k.

I owned a Prelude and a HondaS2000, the 370 doesnt even come close to the butter smooth shifting of those manuals, however this car shiits on those cars when it comes to practical torque on the streets.

The wife and I just ordered our first z a couple weeks ago. The wait already sucks. We test drove mustangs, camaros, miatas, a very used carrera, and the z. The mustang had the shortest throw with no notch. We obviously liked the z much more over all, but we both commented on the mustangs short smooth shifts.
