Didn't realize it 'til we went back later for pics... it's a long way down. Make it through a couple trees and it's 80-100' down before you hit the water.

Just got too much rotation on entry and had to do everything I could to prevent it from rotating too much. Hold a slide to scrub speed and then wait until I could get some grip to drive out of it. If we swapped ends we were done for. Scary stuff. Big lesson learned... a mistake at 10/10ths on the road doesn't afford you much room to recover!

I feel bad for putting my friend in a position to get hurt. I am very thankful that through a combination of luck and skill we made it through without injury or damage.

Next year I'm just not going to drive that hard when I'm by myself to limit the chances of making another mistake. I'll drive hard behind another car because I know I'm within my limits.

I will also probably return with stickier and wider tires all around.

I think gopro's should be a requirement. :stirthepot:

When they say use all the road they don't mean the green part. You did get very lucky there.

Fire 05-25-2012 10:07 PM

You could have very easily rotated into the trees and over.

Bucketlist2012 05-25-2012 10:09 PM

Holy crap Steve...I heard the rumors, but the pictures and the drop off....

Glad it turned out ok..

If it was in the Mustang, you know how horses can be...They like to run wild...

Fire 05-25-2012 10:09 PM

Learning the limits of the car is why I want to take my ZL1(if I get it) to the track and get professional instruction.

Thanks man.

Yeah, this car rotates really easily which is good and bad. Good because it's fast as hell through a corner... bad because... well, it can be a bitch to drive at full tilt!

I have a pretty aggressive suspension setup, too. I've got a good bit of rotation from the rear with the way I've got my watts link set up. Again, good and bad.

Such a beast.

Alchemy 05-25-2012 10:11 PM

You were trying to impress Dan, its ok Steve, we know;)

Fire 05-25-2012 10:11 PM

I take it that you where coming from the top of the pic right?

Yeah definitely! I know the limits, I just made a mistake. Definitely have to tone it down for the street to allow some room for error.

At least on track you're generally afforded sufficient runoff to attempt a save. Or just to spin off and maybe not hit anything if you're lucky.

Not going to touch that. :icon18:

Yes the track is def. the place to learn the limits. Watkins Glen has alot of large runoff areas. I'm hoping that in the first class they keep you from using them and make you use just what track is provided. After that I want to learn to utilise the fullest extent of the track.

m4a1mustang 05-25-2012 10:19 PM

Somewhat back on topic... we are taking the S2000 to a dealership tomorrow for ***** and giggles. If they offer me more than I paid for it, it's theirs. One step closer to sorting out the NISMO vs. TTS deal.

You may not want to touch it, but from what Steve said......He may have wanted to touch that..

Thanks God that he scared himself straight.:icon18::tup:

There are some areas at WG where the walls really close in on the track.

Fire 05-25-2012 10:23 PM

Do you think thy will offer you more outright then as a trade?

m4a1mustang 05-25-2012 10:25 PM

I don't know. That's what we'll find out .

Most of those areas are on the straights. But you always need to keep within your limits.

I tell you what, I am pulling for the NISMO. It's cheaper to buy, cheaper to own, more fun, etc. It will also provide me with an insane amount of trolling material for the forum. :bowrofl:

But in the end it's her decision. I have a feeling that she likes the TTS more. The thing holding her (us) back is the cost. It's nice but damn it's expensive... and once you get above $40k I start to get feeling like, "damn... it's just a car."

the headrest mount was like $45, the ball joint $12, the gopro tripod mount like $8. i removed the bulky block that came with the headrest piece, used one 1/4" SAE screw to mount the ball joint directly onto the headrest mount beam..

I am not sure how much will-power came into play in my case. I had a simple choice to make back then -- continue on my path and "live" maybe another year, or get sober and try to fix the train wreck my life had become. It's hard to explain, but in a flash, I knew I had to try the latter. Perhaps it was willpower at first, perhaps it was divine inspiration -- I don't know.

I have been doing this a while and I am around a great many different kind of people -- sober, not sober, trying to get and stay sober -- lots of folks. Some people wonder if they have an issue with it and the simple answer is this: only each individual can make that determination. Most believe that you need to hit a bottom of some kind before you will make the effort and for each person that bottom is different. For some it's a DUI, a divorce, loss of a job, friends' nagging or whatever.

I think back to what it was like for me and it was what you could call a living hell. You can’t quit and you can’t keep going. Slowing down meant seizures and trips to the ER due to withdrawal and continuing meant another step closer to doom. Whenever I feel a little sorry for myself nowadays, I take a breath and remember where I was and suddenly today’s issues seem a little insignificant. I am smiling right now as I write this because it is making me remember that each day in the last almost 12 years is a freebie and I have done a great deal with them.

I began this new chapter in my life with a huge mess and it would have been easier to chuck it in. I had 2 suspensions on my driver’s license, no car anyway (except for a non-running 240z stashed at a storage yard), a no-bail warrant for my arrest, no job, all my stuff crammed in a 10 X 10 storage unit that I prepaid for 3 months, no friends, an alienated family and kids, literally 6 dollars in cash plus a change jar, tens of thousands worth of debt and no permanent place to live. Despite all that, I knew it was worth doing what I am still doing.
Today, I have an excellent credit rating, I owe no one (except a small amount on the mortgage, a decent job that pays well for some reason, nice side work teaching, nice cars, my kids who are my friends, and not too much BS in most parts of my life. Maybe most importantly is that I am married to a wonderful, smart woman who knows all about me and loves me anyway.

I apologize if this is too personal or too much off-topic. I have no clue why I even started this. But if you read it, thanks. You are all pretty great guys and gals.
Oh yeah, I pushed the heck out of my Z on the way home from the office today – always within posted speed limits, of course. The Super Sports do love their exercise sessions.

Have a great day everyone and it you are travelling this weekend – watch out for the idiots and don’t be one of them.

Kensan where did you get the mount? I don't see it listed at their site.
