The ZL1 looks to be a nice package and it also seems you'll get quite a bit for your money.

I was in the market for a 2SS/RS Camaro back in 2009. I honestly didn't care for how cheap the interior seemed in that model. I went to the Dodge dealer and drove a Challenger and fell in love with it so that's what I ended up with. I've not looked at one since 2009 to know if they improved the interior quality, but i do remember reading they were going to do so.

The Camaro also feels like of weird to look out of. The side belt line is a bit high so you feel a little enclosed.

I doubt you're gonna find a dealer to let you test drive a ZL1, but if I were you I'd test drive at least a 2SS to get a sense of the car before plunking down any money.

Keep in mind, that 2013 Ford Mustang GT500 is coming to the show with 650HP and a new suspension and some other goodies. That's the one I have my eye on.

Thanks for posting the laps of VIR Import. As I said before the ZL1 is a total package not just one nice part. A short throw shifter, D shaped steering wheel, of course the supercharger, liquid to liquid inter cooler, oil cooler, trans and rear end inter cooler/warmer, electromagnetic shocks with 5 presets from wet roads to racetracks, integrated aero pieces including under hood air extractor, under body belly pan, vacuum operated exhaust by-pass, Baer 6 piston front/4 piston rear calipers, two piece rotors. Thats a package made for those of us that are seeking performance driving and are willing to pay a fair price for it.:ughdance: As I posted before I'm looking forward to track days with GT500's, GT-R's, ZO6's, Ferrari's, Lambo's all the high performance cars. Do I think that my car will be the fastest, hell no but it will be fast and I will enjoy my time going to the track and on the track.

you left out launch control. And this launch control doesn't limit how many you want to do. (ala GTR)

i just cant get past the looks of the ZL1.

If you mention GTR....well even having to wait 4 years for someone like me, is worth it. The GTR for myself is one of the worlds best supercars, does everything that I need.

TerribleONE 03-13-2012 05:03 PM

It just looks like a camaro... no? ^^

From what R&T said the ZL1 and GT-R are nothing like each other. So it is what you want. One thing to remember is that the ZL1 beat the GT-R's time at VIR. In a nut shell this is what they said about the two cars in their test drive. Oh a note here: when they did their test the temp was right at the temp limit Chevy has for the tires 40F. Chevy says not to use in temps below 40F. OK back to the eval. The ZL1 is big and bulky but handles extremely well. The driver drives the car and it may be beyond the abilities of some drivers. The GT-R feels like a video game. Handles great and makes decent drivers very good drivers. It is 4wheel drive so handles great in marginal weather. I don't know which I would take if I had $100,000 to spend. I would probably get a ZR1 vette.I don't think you will be disappointed whichever you take.

Terrible the ZL1 looks like a camaro the way a gt500 looks like a mustang and a Nismo looks like a base Z. I like the agressive looks but it isn't for everybody, and thankfully not everybody will have one. Dark does the GTR limit the number of launches with launch control?? No doubt the GT-R is an amazing car.

TerribleONE 03-13-2012 05:18 PM

I was well aware already. Just replying to dark sarcasm saying he loves the looks of the ZL1.. I am not saying its a bad looking car, however it doesnt have anymore WOW factor than a regular camaro..

Fire 03-13-2012 05:21 PM

I think it looks better with the base black rims which is what I ordered. The chrome rims kind of blend into the car and being bulky hide the large calipers and rotors. Also it helps highlight the ground effects and taller hood.

3 if you have time to make your choice I would do this. Look at all the vehicles you want with your wife. It might be hard to test drive a ZL1 for a little while but I'd say by Dec. dealers might have them to test. After looking and test driving the cars make you choice. Just remeber it is your choice so you have nobody to impress other than yourself and wife. I don't know how you drive and what you want out of your cars only you do.

Actually, it already ended. The Mayans did not have a Leap Year like we do, and so mid 2011 is when their calendar ACTUALLY stopped. Derp :bowrofl:
