Color CMOS/CCD 420 TV Lines Car Rear View Camera for Nissan Livina - Tmart.com

KevinB 01-18-2012 01:24 PM

I bought the same camera. Pops inplace of current light cover. I did this when i intalled my license plate leds and it was easy

LMBmikeZ 01-18-2012 09:42 PM

Anyway the stillen grounding kit is <$100 and is worth while putting in. Found my old Z (z32 TT) ran much better after I installed the grounding kit FYI! Just reduces the interference from other electronics.

Very curious to see this installed in someone else's z and it really looked like crap. :ugh2:

In for :pics:

I did the grounding kit and I didn't like the look so I did it again using 1/4" black plastic flex conduit from Harbor Freight over all the wires so it blends in and looks like the factory wiring harness. My kit was red and it just looked out of place to me. Just my opinion.

What materials are they made from?

The skirts are made from a 50% plastic/50% wood blend (think Trex patio decking) that can be fabricated with wood working tools and is pretty much water proof and warp proof. It was painted with Rustoleum dark gray automotive primer and finish coated with black Plasti-dip spray.

The material is readily available at Lowe's home centers. I got a 1"x12"x12' plank for $50. It's wood grained on the face and textured on the back side. I used the back side and applied 5-6 heavy coats of primer on the back side (which became the finished side in this application), I sanded (220 grit between coats, 320 grit for the final sanding) lightly between each coat until the texture was filled in and the surface was smooth. I sealed the underside with some satin black paint I had on hand and finished the top with two cans of plasti-dip spray.

It is attached with a combination of plastic trim clips and 6mm bolts with washers and nyloc nuts, also available at Lowe's.

To reduce weight as much as possible I eliminated as much material as possible from the unseen areas and I used a router to reduce the 5/8" thickness (like almost all lumber items listed as 1" it's actually only 5/8") to 3/8" everywhere except the exposed edges of the plank which were left at 5/8".

If you are short of cash, have some spare time on your hands and have access to some tools this might be the mod for you.

If anyone wants to check them out PM me. A DIY will be posted soon.

That's good to know, good tip +1repped! I know it doesn't look that good in my old Z but at least it is some thing functional. I think I might go with the black conduit to help blend it in when I do it.

I have a Kenwood HU. The great thing about this camera setup is it replaces one of the license plate lights. Daytime viewing is great, night viewing is poor. For $16, my expectations were not very high!

happytheman 01-19-2012 07:02 AM

Guard Dad +rep for ingenuity! Ill be looking for DIY! Did you weigh them before installing? I assume they can't weigh more than four or five lbs each.

I didn't weigh them but that sounds about right. The stuff is fairly dense so I made a real effort to remove it where it wasn't needed.

They offer a silver kit, which might look better but for me this was one mod that was better unseen.

LMBmikeZ 01-19-2012 01:36 PM

I think it is his aluminum under shroud...... Looks like one, plus looking at his mod list

sfearl1 01-19-2012 02:46 PM

yep, Z Speed aluminum under shroud

370Z ZSpeedPerformance Aluminum Engine Under Shroud

On Courtesyparts.com you can buy the rear jdm fog light kit for 195.99 it includes light bulb and jdm swith for the steering wheel.http://http://www.courtesyparts.com/...ml?cPath=8714&

Mr. Q 01-19-2012 04:14 PM

I'll attest to the effectiveness of the aluminum under shroud. Easy oil changes and the vents seem to help lower oil temps

sfearl1 01-19-2012 04:14 PM

^^ awesome!

Be careful with that switch. Although it will bolt right on and work for the most part, it is a RHD part. Your turn signal stalk and multifunction switches will be reversed. Just be aware of that.

I've contemplated buying the JDM switch. I know it would reverse things but once I got used to it again it wouldn't matter because nobody drives my car other than me :D

MrZ 01-20-2012 08:12 PM

Weather tech makes great all weather floor mats that are digitally cut to match the car for anybody who would like to protect the floor of their Z and they match the interior great. Only $99.00

I mentioned in another post discussing the JDM Reverse Fog. I recommend trying to source the Canadian-spec version. Some of the Canadian spec 370Z's came with the Reverse Fog from Nissan and were LHD. This would be a more ideal setup.

...Dunno why the Canadians got all the cool parts and we didn't. Their NISMO Edition 370Z's come with the NAV too!

The Canadian Nismo is the same as the American no Nav! Only the 40th AE came with Nav where the American one did not. As for the fog light it was Nissan Canada that made the decision for all Canadian models to come equipped surge the fog light.

imwazn 01-22-2012 07:18 PM

how about window tints? i got mine for ~140.

happytheman 01-22-2012 08:49 PM

What percentage did you go with?

LMBmikeZ 01-22-2012 09:01 PM

Tints good one!!!!

Got mine done with first week! Went with 20% all around. But I'm considering taking it out to go darker........

happytheman 01-22-2012 09:21 PM

Wow! Ontario doesn't give you a load of BS over the dark tints?

brucelidat 01-22-2012 09:22 PM

My tint's pretty light. Is it pretty easy to have tint removed for newer darker tint? Just wondering if there would be any leftover film or anything that could mess up your new tint.

I haven't gotten any trouble. In my old dd a SER Altima blacked out I had 20% in front and 10% in the rear which I loved and never had trouble one time a cop asked but didn't seem to concerned....... As he wrote me ticket for speed :driving: lol.

Because my z is a summer/semi DD (when it's in season) I am thinking I could go with either 10% all around or maybe......10% in front and limo on rear and quarters. Most likely 10% though.

There will not be to much residue left on the windows. I have pulled out tints before and just had to use a little cleaner and it wiped up fine. If your worried just try using some rubbing alcohol on cloth. Dries clean and without leaving anything behind.

Hmm...I swear I thought I saw that the Canadian NISMO's came with NAV. Oh well. I stand corrected. :tiphat:

LMBmikeZ 01-23-2012 01:11 PM

Ya just the Canadian 40th is different from the American ones. Our Nismo is also as close to none stock as possible.

Chaddrift 01-25-2012 08:14 AM

my windows are limo on every window can't see shiit at night lol but looks amazing

happytheman 01-25-2012 10:54 AM

How do you all deal with backing into spaces, roll down the passenger window for better mirror viewing?
