Official Cheap Mod Thread

Someone suggested a couple of days ago that we put together a thread that shows that not all mods for our Z34s have to cost more money than you're prepared to part with at the moment.

Tax time is upon us right now. For some amongst us it's a time of celebration and economical stimulus, for others it's a time to buckle down and cough up cash to The Man. While some are out splurging on TT or Venacis, others may feel less than adequate :ugh2:

Let's use this space to celebrate all the cheap, miserly, penny pinching and sometimes utterly ridiculously inexpensive additions to our rides.

The key requirement here is that the mod must be tasteful. No skull shifters or fuzzy dice suggestions please, because that needs to be left for the bagged Impalas to sport. It would also be helpful to provide pictures, prices and links to puchase. Preferably these links should be supporting vendors of the370z.com.

Let's try to keep the suggestions for mods at $200 or less.

And......go!

I didn't do this one personally but there was the guy who put like 16 washers on the bolts between his exhaust and muffler to make his car sound a lot better.

sfearl1 01-12-2012 11:04 PM

^^ What, to create an exhaust leak?

Debadging or painting your badges is a cheap and easy mod to do.

Dont have a pic but I did the license plate leds, were like 10 bucks.

Thanks

I think LED bulbs for the parking lights and rear license plate lights are a good cheap mod as well. I think you can get the bulbs for like $10-20 bucks and it only takes a couple mins to put them in.

Ok so heres my Cheap build up to this point. I would just like start by saying just because you did something "cheap" doesnt mean it has to look like it or function like it. BTW as youll see in the pictures my third brake wasnt painted when I took the pictures however IT IS DONE NOW. Heres the list so far (of the cheaper mods that is):

Evo-R Type I Lip $180
Professionally Painted Tails $100
Interior Red LED's about $10
Liscense plate LED's also about $10
Painted Sport rims $60 in materials (long time though)
Painted engine cover Red $10-15
Top-Speed Y-Pipe $199 (yes is close to the 200 mark, and I have mine paired with their exhaust as well for an INCREDIBLE SOUND)
GoPro mount $19 and no this is NOT A STICK ON MOUNT it is completely removable
Hardwire Radar Detector (assuming you already have a radar detector) $50
PW:jdm Shift knob $ under 200 easily
Upgraded Slotted Rotors from Z1 $185
Plasti-Dip Emblems $8

Hopefully my car goes to show you can make one look very good with a clean custom look for not a lot of money. I get more compliments on this car than my old 600RWHP shelby GT500. Seriously. Now for pictures

Which polk speakers did you get exactly? I've been considering upgrading them for a while. I have the base audio. Do they drop in for that, or is this for the bose system? Or do they work either way?

370Zsteve 01-13-2012 11:25 AM

OK< Mods can now officially close this thread.
