wow, Fontana Nissan has a quality looking garage...but they aren't a typical dealer anyways right?

haitech 01-25-2012 02:58 PM

Did you tint your windshield also?

Fontana Nissan's service department is pretty nice. The view you are seeing of Theflyest1's car is from their waiting room. They have a giant window where you can watch as they work on your car. I'm sure the mechanics hate it but it's pretty cool.

I was home from work today with strained neck so I had a lot time on the internet. A lot of time on the internet makes me want to buy things. So I am now wait on a package from Z1. I ordered a 25 row oil cooler, post MAF pipes, HKS hybrid drop in filters, and an oil change kit with Red Line oil and Nismo oil filter. I also bought an electric smoker for any BBQ lovers.

dealer oil change? This isn't one of the free ones is it? Did you make sure they used the esther oil or a synthetic if you've already made the switch? I got offered a free oil change (not at Fontana), but they were going to put the reg oil in and esther would have been like $75 extra or something.

Sound like a good day at the Srenity household!

Hmm,interesting! I know a number of people have had a discussion about HKS, K&N or OEM without any real conclusion. In for impressions.

What color post MAFs did you go with?

I just got Black to keep it stockish looking. I was thinking about red but black won out. As for the filter discussion I read a few posts and nothing was able to convince me that either is a better option so I went with the HKS because it is a dry filter and the price was better.

iirc on NAGTROC a few years ago someone posted filtration and flow characterisitics of all the major filters. HKS was very poor for filtration, K&N was extremely good at filtering and air flow, AEM dry filters flowed and filtered very well, almost as good as K&N but as they got dirty their performance plummeted while K&N's held steady longer.

Personally, I run the K&N drop ins but I don't reoil, every 15-20K I just toss them and buy new ones.

November was my very first track experience, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I had fun and plan to try it some more this year. Not competitive, just driving schools (BMW GGC) but I'll probably go to Laguna Seca in a few weeks, and am excited for lots of AutoX starting in April.

happytheman 01-26-2012 06:41 AM

Glad to hear you're going to driving school! :tiphat:
Now maybe you can turn off VDC and not put you're ride into a fence! :)

Well, I would say they are a typical dealer; however, they are super mod-friendly and have some really knowledgeable techs (Chris Heimburg is one). I drive over an hour just to have my car serviced there...but well worth it. For example, as we all know, the Amuse front bumper doesn't make it easy to replace the oil filter...so their tech made a special cut out "door" for me so that future oil changes won't require removing the bumper. No charge...how cool is that?!

I did...but it's not at all noticeable in daylight. This picture makes it look super dark, which isn't even close to what it's like in real life.

Haha...I do get the feeling that they hate it; but hey, it's better that they know us enthusiasts care about our cars. After a few visits though, you get to know the techs...so it's not as big a deal. BTW, free popcorn and coffee in the waiting room

I'm still on esther oil. I actually purchased a maintenance plan along w/ my Z...so I pretty much follow their schedule/req's...and pay nothing each visit. The cool thing w/ Fontana Nissan is that they do the extras for a modded car, but don't charge extra (i.e., put in more oil cuz I have an oil cooler, etc.).

kenchan 01-26-2012 11:45 AM

i needs dealers like fontana in my area...

we all know wat happens when you take a modded cars to a regular dealer.... first they can't get it up on a lift. then they crack/scratch your aero bits. then do their potentially lousy work. dirty up your car. then pretend nothing happened...and ask for payment.

Those sound some effective pain killer for a strained neck. LOL

And help you take off some weight from the wallet. :icon18:

BTW, when is the BBQ?

Diff change for 7AT

Bought supplies for a new project. 6MT rear diff and Quaiffe LSD.

Would like to go with 3.9 gears, but may have to settle with 3.6 in the MT diff to keep the cruise control working. Still researching that one. Any help from the gallery would be much appreciated.
